Im looking to add to my aresenal of zoom lenses ( i currently have Nikon 24-70 F2.8 and the 70-200 F2.8 VR2 and the latestSigma 150-500 ) this time in the wide angle dept
any insight or expierience with the following : Nikor
14-24 F2.8
16-35 F4
17-35 F2.8
They are all relatively close in price I know the 14-24 wont accept filters but short of that what can you tell me as for Quality and IQ
Iam currently using a crop sensor Nikon d 7000 but prefer to stick with FX lenses as perhaps someday i may go full frame ( see if and what the rumoured d400 is like ) who knows maybe a D600 or 800
uses would obviously be landscape as well as some tight quarter indoor shooting
Just picked up a used macro rail so time to go play with the 105 for a bit
Thanks in advance for your help
Oh PS someone mentioned we should have UHH t-shirts - could we add a decoder ring to that as well ?
I think as far as IQ goes, the 14-24 top's the rest. It is a superior piece of glass.
I have the 14-24 2.8 and the IQ is simply stunning.

The 10-24 is the ticket for your D7000.
Although a DX lens you can use it on a D800 in crop mode OR you can use it in FX mode. You get significant vignetting below 18mm but not above that...and you can correct it at the wider angles if you want.
But I am considering trading it for the FX model eventually.
I might add that I'd have no use for an f2.8 wide angle. I do landscape with it and am always at f16 or higher.

14-24mm 2.8 completes the Trinity. a no regrets purchase that holds it's value.
14-24mm F2.8, although the 17-35mm F2.8 is a good second choice!

Here is another lens that I would consider over the others Nikkor AF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 G IF-ED DX.

T shirts sound good; perhaps the artistic UHH'ers could suggest a design

If you can get the 14-24 F2.8

If you look at kenfaulknerphotography.com you can see how good it is.
The best piece of glass you can get

Nice lens for a DX, but the OP specifically stated he wants only FX lenses.

Don't think twice while Nikon 14-24 is in the list. It is one of the best lens that made by Nikon & also wonderful thing that you covered from 14mm to 200mm by top quality glass.

Definately only FX i have really been leaning to the 14-24
just worried i cannot put a clear uv or `clear protection` glass on front that big bulbous beuty of a lens looks like an accident magnet !!

Why not? This suggests you can put on filters and a hood.
http://www.closeoutdigital.com/products.asp?dept_id=&product_id=1092I wouldn't want to cover such glass with a clear filter anyway. The hood provided pretty good protection. That plus add it to my insurance.
I gather the above is gray market.
Still wondering about how/why no filter thread.
I'd sure prefer VR on such a lens.
