I have been thinking about getting an ultra-wide for quite some time and when I saw a Sigma 10-20 4-5.6 on eBay listed for $300 from Midwest Photo (100% positive feedback). I bid $305. I won!
Anyone using this lens and if so opinions please. I will be using it outdoors so the 4-5.6 shouldn't be a problem. I use a Nikon D7000. Thanks.

It is a great lens. Be careful of the distoration at 10-11mm.

I believe that lens sells for about $469 - $499 normally so you did good. I use the Sigma 8-16mm f/4-5.6 on a daily basis and love it. I use it for real estate interiors (aperture priority with flash, f/8, and ISO 800) and exteriors (aperture priority, no flash, f/8, ISO 200) as well. It's crisp, built like a tank, has very rich color saturation because of the Sigma proprietary coatings on all internal lens glass surfaces, and I couldn't be happier with it.

One thing I've noticed, probably because of the glass coatings on all internal elements, is that I've never gotten a lens "flare" from sunlight since I've owned it. I will get a fog on the photo if I have very strong overhead sunlight at, let's say, high noon, but I've never experienced the row of octagonal figures that many lenses create in a photo from light bouncing around inside between the elements.

The barrel distortion and vignetting you will experience at 10mm can be fixed in LR4 or any competent editing software. You may want to stay above 12mm most of the time. I personally use DxO Optics Pro 8 to make precise lens and body corrections for barrel distortion when it's something very important and to it roughly with LR4 when it's not.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the comments. I have LR5 and will take a look at DxO Optics Pro 8. I am strictly a hobbyist now. Photos are just for my enjoyment. Used a Kowa Super 66 back in the day to shoot weddings.

If you have Lightroom 5, then you can correct the distortion using this.

I use it on my D7000 and love it!

Probably my fav lens

I've owned mine for nearly 5 years. It lives on my D300.
Along with my 50-500 Sigma it's my favourite lens. I do love extremes!
Go out and enjoy it.

The Sigma 10-20mm is my favorite landscape lens. I have been using it on a Canon 40D for the last two years and it usually stays on the camera. I cary another camera that I will change lenses on for other than landscape purposes.

I paid $340 for my on eBay (BIN) complete with caps, hood & case...It was in "like new" condition...That said, it filled the super wide angle hole in my collection quite nicely & I'm more than pleased with the results...

I never leave home without it. As mentioned above. It even has it's own Nikon body. I find at family gatherings or group type settings, it's a must have.

A question about your lens. I was thinking of buying the f3.5 lens instead of the f4. I've looked it up and the difference can be around $250.00 for half a stop. Would it be worth paying that much more for a half stop quicker lens? I'm not sure what I would be gaining for that much money. Just wondering. Thanks.

Apparently the 3.5 is not as sharp

Great lens--I used it a lot until I got an 8-16. The thing I like is the angle of view is rather close to your human eye--which give a "like I remember it feel to the picture"

Stan, so you have the f3.5-5.6 or the f4-5.6? I'm interested in knowing if the 3.5 is worth around $250.00 more than the f.4. Thank you.
