Wahawk - Thank you, I really need to read up on that part and try to understand how all the different quality settings affect the picture. As I said I have always left it on the S and have never changed it. Worked well when I printed the pictures.

When you look at the "Pixel" dimension of your files, divide those numbers by 300 for the maximum size in inches for "Ultimate" quality, or by 200 for the maximum Very Good size prints.

That makes it easy enough.

A JPG will go to 8X10 with little problem.

I have recently done the very same thing. I shoot Nikon. I have a D-7000 also 16mp and have enlarged to 16 x 20 with no problems.

Hi cindij,

I did a little research and some math. I found that shooting (S) quality in either RAW or JPG reduces the size to 4.5 megapixels. This will give you an 8x10 print of about 200ppi. While acceptable you may want to consider using the (M) mode which will reduce the size to 10 mp (RAW) and 8mp (JPG) and allow you to print 8x10's at about 300ppi.

I have been approached to have some of my photos taken in an around the area framed and displayed in a new restaurant. Now comes the problem. I have always only printed 5 x 7 copies of my photos for my own pleasure and have never enlarged them, and they are asking for 8 x 10. My camera quality is always been set at RawS + JPG (S) Canon. Will they be able to be enlarged without losing quality. I hope I have explained this properly. Thanking you in advance.

When I have seen articles or videos online about setting up a camera, they have recommended Large JPG, and Normal. That's how I have mine setup - raw and JPG (L). I'd rather get a smaller number of better images on my card that a large number of lower quality images.

When we had a VCR, my son would record TV shows at the lowest speed to get the most onto one tape. Looking at them later, he realized the folly of his ways.

It's 18mp, I don't even have to do the math. Your prints should come out fine.

Heck yes!!! Go to 16 x 20 with no problem, from the raw files would be best for color adjustment.

Overkill.
All the OP has to do is NOT shrink what she already has.

You should have no problems with 8X10's. You could probably go a size or two higher even and have good results. Cheers.
