So I have a brand new 70-300mm and focus is soft and Nikon replies with:

Thank you for contacting Nikon Customer Support. Have you tried focusing in Live View? I would recommend using f/4.5-9 when it is to high the background will be soft.

Guess I'm not supposed to use F10 to F22 then eh ?

I had one eye done and then the other one done a couple of months later. What a difference! Colors are right, and I don't need glasses for distance. I do need them for close-up, though, something I never needed before. It's so nice to be able to drive, watch TV, or just walk around without having to wear prescription glasses. Now I get my reading glasses for a buck a pair at the Dollar Tree.
You and lenses don't seem to be getting along lately, Make sure you don't send your head to NIkon and bring the 70-300 to the doctor!
Get well soon!

Sarge you will love youe new eyes. and thats what it seems like new eyes. When my eye doctor told me I needed to have them removed I didnt think I did. He done the one eye and when I went back to have the banages removed he told me to keep that eye shut.He ask me what color his lab coat was. I said white. He said open the other eye. Wow what a differance. His coat was really white. If I closed the new eye it looked yellow. So I had the outher eye done two weeeks later. He put in two new lens. Each a little differant. I now need reading glasses. I have a pair of glasses now that are clear glass but have byfocles for reading. I wore glasses since I was 7 years old. I felt lost without them. and got tired of puting on the readeds.

Nice. I can see a lot of difference also. VA did the left eye over 1 but near 2 years ago. Never scheduled the other. Left eye is clear and great colors. RIght eye is blurry and mainly yellowish. Hope I have as good luck as you did. Thanks

The VA did my eyes about 20 years ago. Because of the distance from me to the hospital, I spent 3 days in pajamas. Also, because I was so young, they did not "ripen" at the same rate, and they waited a year and a half to do the other one. It was still a miracle. I was getting nose prints on my computer screen! Now I don't wear glasses except for close up, and I spent the first 45 years of my life not being able to see across the street. I know you already had one done, but the second one makes a HUGE difference! Good luck with Nikon.

Guess I've been lucky, I have film cameras F, F2, F3, FG, and DSLRsfrom D100 on up along with only Nikon glass and have never sent anything home to be fixed. Sorry for anyone having problems.
Guess I'm not supposed to use F10 to F22 then eh ?

Pretty well any lens will look soft at F22, and many up to F11- due to diffraction. It's physics, and can't be avoided.
So I had a go around with the phone company the last few days trying to get my service reupped after vacation hold.
Each time you call them they ask you to enter your phone number or say it before they give you the options to choose.
When you get to a person the first thing they ask you for is your phone number.
Keep in mind this is the phone company. Most retailers read my phone number back to me, without me entering it, as the first thing they say...to make sure they can call me back if we get disconnected.
