I use a Nissin Di622 on my Nikon D3100, and I've been very happy with it. It does the tilt and swivel (bounce from ceiling when camera is turned to portrait) and puts out more than enough light -- I usually turn the power level down.

I recommend buying a flash with a swivel. You need it for bounce flash when you hold the camera vertically. Also, if you want to model your subject by bouncing from the side rather than above. Such a flash may also be more powerful than one without the swivel. When it comes to power, more is better. You can shoot further or reduce recycling times.

I had a flash that was tilt/swivel with my old Nikon FE and really like it, but it's useless on the D3100. THANKS for this information...I was looking at the Di622. Good results, eh? Will look for this on-line. Any recommendations for best price on one of these?

IMHO I think that all of you would garner more respect if you learned how to spell Pentax! (Just trying to lighten it up.)
