SD card adapter for iPad $5.99 on Amazon. A screen that has better resolution than the human eye...and 64 gig of memory.....works for me, and as well, the client/subject has a really hi- res photo he can hold in his hands.
8-)

Thank you.

Yessir. That's about where we're at now.
Everything in digital is changing so fast that in no time we'll have tablets that will have all the PP capability of our big laptops and desktops.
Already one of the apps on my ipad can do a nice job on noise.
Betcha we'll soon have full blown capability to edit and convert raw to what ever we want and be able to move images on to external hard drives. That may be here now and many of us have not yet heard about it.
This thread you've started, in my opinion, is one of the most useful we've had.Pierre
Yessir. That's about where we're at now. br Everyt... (show quote)

The software and storage will be on the "Cloud", the hi res iPad will be the viewing device. The future is near.

Is there any reason why I would need a tablet (real question)

I have a laptop for in car / on location, rarely if ever have I seen a photographer with a tablet, I think because of the almost non existent storage, so is there a reason why I would need one

This is one area I am not familiar with, so thanks for the input

I don't have an iPad but my wife has an iPod Touch. I dabble with it occasionally but actually hate the damned thing. I got my 3-year-old son a Samsung Galaxy Player 3.6 to get him away from my wife's iPod Touch and I actually like it much better and it works better and more logically than the iPod. I believe iPods and iPads are mostly toys for adults to pass their time with, walk off of subway train platforms with, and use as a tool to ignore those around them.

We have friends with iPads (and those friends do nothing productive except stay on Facebook 24/7 while switching to their iPhones occasionally for brief answers of phone calls and texts) and I've played with them (the iPads) a few times (one with an external membrane keyboard) but not for any extended periods of time. I personally couldn't stand one for an extended period of time because I found them irritating.

I have no clue why anybody would want to slow their typing speed to an error-filled crawl with a touch screen keyboard that doesn't respond very fast and you must concern yourself with tapping the letters right in the center or else you get the letter next door and must back over what you typed and do it again. Don't even try to use a real typist's hand positions like you were taught in school. I like the tactile feel of real key top edges to keep my hands in place while I'm not looking.

I also have no idea why anybody would want to post edit photos on one because you're not going to jam Photoshop or Corel Paintshop Pro or any of the advanced amateur to professional types of software on it. If I take a photo that can reveal great detail that needs noise reduction or something on my 23" screen, I'm not going to see that detail on a 10" screen and the photo will look theoretically better than it really is on the small screen. The only advantage of an iPad would be the Apple Retina display but only if you buy Apple for top buck.

A maximum 10" screen causes you to have to read a small font to have a decent amount of text on-screen but still must move the page around in all directions to completely read an article. Larger font and you're moving the page continuously to read something. I'll stick with a 15" laptop screen thank you. The touch swipe for changing pages sometimes works right and other times slides two or three pages past where you wanted to be if you're not precise with your technique.

Tablets are over-priced - even the off-brands - for what they are, what they do, and how they're equipped. Most of them use a rather dumb OS, Windows is only available on a couple models and most are Android based like a smart phone but there's no phone in them, Apple OS is only available on the highest priced tablets known to mankind. The CPU isn't a speed monster. Memory is very limited. Storage is even worse. Many websites on the Internet are not HTML 5 compliant yet so you may not be able to see your favorite websites that you are accustomed to.

When I saw a TV weatherman standing in front of his blue wall holding an iPad case in his left hand while waving his right arm around (it may have not even had an iPad in the case because he didn't look at it or use it for anything) and after he was done the same iPad was laying on the anchor desk in front of the lead anchor so he could look fully-equipped for public viewing too, I knew what this is all about - having an iPad is a status symbol for the gadget-obsessed cool crowd like carrying a Coach purse or wearing a Cartier wrist watch so you can look down on the lowly Samsung tablet carrying and Casio watch wearing urchins beneath you.

Just buy a Google Chrome laptop by Asus for $279 that actually does something worthwhile and forget the tablet thing. When they get around to a 15" tablet with something more than Android or Apple apps for Angry Birds and the WWE for $250, let me know and I'll reconsider.
