That would depend on what you wanted it to do and/or replace.

Cell phone?
GPS?
Camera?
Email?
Text?
PhotoShop (or other graphic intensive apps like CAD or games)?
Surfing web?

Exactly.

Spreadsheet documents?
Tax preparation programs?
Edit photographs?
Write letters?
Store photographs?
Send/receive faxes?
Print documents?

When my laptop broke i thought i would get a new one until i realised i would have to have windows 8 and as i detest windows 7 as well and i cannot get Vista i wont be having another laptop or computer again, so it will be interesting to hear about tablets or i pads.

If you don't like Windows, have you ever heard of Apple? I hear they make a fine product.

Web browsing 99.9% iPad. Emails less so only because I have to attach files for my work and it would be extra work to upload to Skydrive or other cloud storage then send from there. Videos on Ipad only unless I have to watch something on our corporate intranet on my work desktop. My gripe with the iPad is the stupid Apple policy of wanting to control everything resulting in connections on the iPad being sparse compared to other tablets on the market now.
