I'm curious about how UHH members view the website. Since I got an iPad, I rarely use my computer any more. Ninety-nine percent of my online activity is on the iPad.

How many of you primarily use your tablet, and how many use your computer? For me, it sure is nice to be able to sit on the couch or on the can and enjoy a good read. How about you?

I sit at my computer and do Email and FB and other stuff...where I have access to more information saved on both of my drives... but when I go to bed, I use the ipad about an hour or so before the lights go out.

Using the tablet (a tablet is a "computer") right now. Use it for news, some emails, and casual research, casual photography and associated simple post-processing. Use the iMac for research, distance education, long emails in which there can be no errors, and of course, post-processing.

The iPad is my first "Kodak Brownie". I use it for street photography. Nobody pays any attention to me when I use it. But if I bring out my D7000 the atmosphere chills considerably.

I use my iPad all the time ! I use the crop facility on the edit facility where the photos are stored. I am not advanced enough yet to try out the various photoshops etc.

I view UHH on my iPad and like downloading to view some of the photos ,I also like the ability to enlarge an area with my fingers. I watch an eagle cam a UHH member put up a link for and do not have to put up with popup adds. I do all photo editing on my MacBook though because my iPad is first generation.

I definitely love my mini iPad. I love many of the photo apps for quick editing. I use my laptop only for serious photo editing and backups. There is software out there that allows you to login to your laptop from anywhere as long as you are wifi connected. You can search for LOGMEIN app. My next adventure is to remotely control my camera from my iPad. So for me I give a big thumbs up for tablets. I think the future will eventually eliminate the laptop. The laptop will go the way the same way the floppy drive did. I give it 10 years. I do own ipads, itouch, iphone, but IMO, I have a funny feeling Mac will fall behind in the technology.

Nice feature of using I Pad for looking at the daily UHH is ability to "pinch zoom" any posted photo.

I remember first using a "portable" PC that weighed about thirty pounds, was the size of a small suitcase, had a front that folded down to become a keyboard, had a five or six inch green screen, a floppy disc, a minimal hard disk and no battery. That was probably mid-1980's. I thought the portability was great, but in retrospect it was a pretty inconvenient machine to schlep around and use.

Now I use tablets for virtually all computing tasks except photo storage and post processing. Unfortunately, there is no tablet at present that does everything I need, so I have an iPad, a Surface Pro, a laptop and a big second screen.

Sounds like a tablet is more than adequate for your needs. I don't think you even need an expensive Ipad, a less pricey Kindle or something similar would suit your purposes. However, I use my computer for a whole lot more than just "a good read".

Since we're on the subject, if you were able to have only one, would it be a tablet, a laptop or a desktop computer? For me it would have to be the desktop. The laptop would come in second. A tablet wouldn't even be considered.

When my laptop broke i thought i would get a new one until i realised i would have to have windows 8 and as i detest windows 7 as well and i cannot get Vista i wont be having another laptop or computer again, so it will be interesting to hear about tablets or i pads.

That would depend on what you wanted it to do and/or replace.

Cell phone?
GPS?
Camera?
Email?
Text?
PhotoShop (or other graphic intensive apps like CAD or games)?
Surfing web?

I use the tower for almost everyhing except:

1. On the remote chance that we have a power failure.
2. I can take a software tutorial on the laptop and follow along on my tower.
3. When making or editing one of my webpages, I can check my work immediately on the laptop or tablet.
