Like the shot's G-man, getting bird close up and in focus is hard. Which is why I avoid them. Love the colors of the first one. As was alreadybeen mention not quite as crips as one wants, but hey, it still a good looking picture. Love the eagle, nice shot.

Now my favorite is of the Elk mooning me. Yep alway like it when I get mooned. Personally I think you could have a lot of fun sending that out as a card. Think of some catching little smart a** statement to put inside it and send it to someone you want to tell off. Just what i would do. HEE,HEE, smiles and giggles.

WOW a wordy guy you are and I respect that to the enth degree. I am proud of the 400mm choice I wish I could take all the credit but my husband does the camera equipment shopping so hi-5 to him. Plus with 5 serious shoulder injuries he knew I wouldn't be able to hoist the 100-400 IS up for very long. Thus he purchased the Bush Hawk for me a great help it is.Being a Colorado native I have truly noticed wildlife dwindling at an alarming pace it pulls at my heart and softens my emtions for the wildlife we do have. When a bird flies to my feeder I stand in awe and thank God I still have eyes to see and the health to take a snap of all that crosses my path. Even if it is as some people say just a house finch. Every summer and every weekend of the summer my parents packed us kids up and we camped from Memorial day until Labor day. I have a serious appreciation for animals, nature (land) and the joy of seeing a star packed sky while laying on my back at 10K feet. You have out done me with the Bald Eagle photo I have yet to snap one. I have seen them in the wild but even too far for the Hubble (400mm) I do have photos of a Bald Eagle and Golden Eagle from a bird event from Hawk Quest but they were captured and healing. To stand eye to eye with those majestic birds was a thrill and I was put in my place by there beauty and power. To get lost in the eye of the Eagle was such a treat I can't even describe looking into their eyes from a distance of 1 foot. So hi-5 to you for your shot a photo to be proud of and cherish! Well I am babbling thinking of looking into the eyes of an Eagle just gets me to blab! The deer on my porch do the samething. Gosh they are so stunning their eyes are soft, tender and in away innocent. hope you grabbed a snack whiel you sat to read this novel. Praise to you for still getting out and enjoying the outdoors and for your photos and thank you for sharing them. Can't wait to see more of your snaps! :D oh bus is leaving got to go... hope this made some kind of sense??? Sher

gessman, I love 2, even more so since bald eagles are my favorite bird in the world. The first thing I ever sat down and drew was a bald eagle. My mom had a plate with an eagle on it and I used that as my model. Guess you can say I copied it - lol - copied but didn't trace. I was 12 yrs old and drew it on regular notebook paper. I still have it but it has a lot of holes in it now. I didn't know about copywright laws back then. I also love the bluebird. I photographed the ones I had nesting in my yard this summer. With a fujifilm p&s camera. Did you happen to see the bald eagle thread I opened last night?
gessman, I love 2, even more so since bald eagles ... (show quote)

That's certainly not a bad favorite thing to like, bald eagles. And no I didn't see your eagle thread. I'll go have a look.
I looked and all I can say is "very good." I agree totally with filling the frame with a subject, especially if there's background you don't want in a picture. We've been brainwashed into thinking we shouldn't cut out part of our subject but I think there are exceptions to that all day long. We don't have to see all of something to appreciate its beauty. Those are good pics. Since you like eagles as much as you express, you should have those blown up and make a grouping on a prominent wall in your house. I'll tell you a secret - you probably won't get any better eagle pictures than that. There are other poses they strike but what you have here is very good.

Well, I sent a blank - sorry. Thank you. You are such an encouraging gentleman. I go to the zoo and spend hours watching that couple. They have been there as far back as I can remember. I have so many pictures of them - some are good, some not so good, and a few are really good. I am constantly chopping off noses, etc, because I like to see the detail. I think eagles have magnificent eyes. I saw them nesting in 2009. The one on the nest
traded places with the other but just before they did that, they touched beaks, it looked like they were kissing, then they swapped. That is one of my favorite memories and it made me cry when I watched it.
I have a lot of eagle photos on my walls, paintings, none by me though. Every t-shirt I own has an eagle on it and most of my sweat shirts too. I can't help it, they are just ... awesome, for lack of a better word.
Sorry, I got carried away here. Love your photos here and always enjoy talking with you.

Thank you Janice. You sound like you truly have a soft spot for eagles. I'm in awe of them myself. They've been rare in my life and I have a lot of gratitude that they've made a comeback and are as numerous as they are. I think each of us who own a camera deserves a trip to Homer, Alaska where they are more numerous than even sparrows. Maybe some day...

1. "Wordy guy." Not always :-)

2. "Bad shoulders." I can relate. Busted up both shoulders. My "go to" right shoulder is worse - busted, re-busted twice, fast pitched softball into my early 40s, aggravated it. Can't put a gallon of milk in the fridge. Four rotator tears, bone spurs, calcium deposits, torn ligaments, tendinitis, cort shots. My Orth Surg said he'd seen worse only one other time - the guy was in a plane crash. I feel your pain.

3. "Bush Hawk." I've been seeing those forever and thinking about them more lately.

4. "Wildlife." We're closing in on their habitat. Not much choice.

5. "Hawk Quest." I've seen that and thought of going. Thought I heard that it was discontinued.

I agree with Alan, except for the highlight in the eye, the focus on this is a little soft. Kind of gives the photo a "dreamy feel."

Oooh I feel your pain! I have had 15 ortho surgeries. Whew friends call me the bionic girl. Have some titanium in lower back after being run over by an insurance sales man in a mini-van how ironic. Bush Hawk works great kind of like a rifle although I have never fired a rifle, but the shutter button is on the trigger way cool. Makes me feel like Rifle Woman ( oppsed to Rifle Man loved the show). Post any new shots lately??

Wow! You HAVE taken some lumps. May have to try on a Bush Hawk. Right at home with a rifle, shotgun, etc. Haven't posted anything new lately. I try to give new folks room to get their stuff out here without too much clutter. "Everybody deserves a day in court," I hear. Your turn, again. :)

Some of the photo's do not very sharp to me on my monitor. The in flight shot of the Geese looks sharp to me. Here is a photo taken with a Canon T1i with a 100-400 IS lens. It was hand held siting in the drivers seat of my car.

My turn... I haven't gulped down enough Mtn. Dew (coffee of choice) to make intelligent comments yet? Have been searching for a twix bar like a dog on the couch sniffing out crumbs under the cushions! Once my body is fully injected with caffiene and sugar I will take my turn?

You're probably seeing them about like they are. Not all of of my shots are as good as they could/should be. Perhaps you've missed my annotations that I am a little sloppy at times and don't do the best job I know how to do. Good observation. Your eagle shot sure shows me the way to go, nice and sharp, good clarity with the lighter background, etc. Nice shot and you didn't even have to get out of the car. What a gift. Thanks for sharing it. Gives me something to shoot for.

Honestly, I'm just amazed that you were able to get a bluebird, period! Every time I am out west I have tried to capture these little buggers! Very flighty, I haven't had any success yet.

So, I try with the eastern blue birds that we have a little inland from me, I've gotten them, but the shots are boring cause they are always sitting on telephone lines!! The bane of my photography existence!

These out here seem real skittish. I don't remember blue birds being that way in Arkansas when I was younger. They're just tough to catch. The original images look a lot better than the ones I have on here. These here have been messed with so much that there's little wonder that they're degraded - resized up and down multiple times, cropped, etc. I am pretty amazed at the fact I caught a couple of them. I'd been looking to do that for some time. Maybe I'll get some more in the Spring. I'll just have to wait and see.

Guessman... I like the second bluebird also,I thought the first had had texture effect added...hard for me to focus.(maybe cause its 4:00am.) I got tired of packing a tripod around (and by the time i had it set up the reason had left the building) so i bought a monopod.(faster,liter)...I had an Eagle once
flying along side of me driving.(could not believe the wing span)a magnificent bird.
