Ma'am, you're entirely too kind and generous but if there's an intended compliment in your comment, thank you. If there is a compliment but an unintended one, well, it's too stinkin' late to edit... LOL.

I assure you Sir, that was an intended compliment and the only way I'd edit it, would be to say these folks are right, it's VERY romantic. I know she loves it!

Thank you again ma'am. Perhaps I should post a better picture of the rose so it can be seen and appreciated a little better. The rose is a gorgeous subject without the rest and was, after all, the focus and therefore should be in the spotlight... It is for one very special lady.

Oh my. I must tell you that I have been away from the group for a while and to come back here and find such a romantic, beautiful thing just made me glad I jumped back in here. Both of these are fabulous...one HDR? Hard to choose, they are both pink perfection. Beautiful work!!!!!

Yet another example of our Creators magic which we can all enjoy. No hdr, just a little light change and different angle. Please also accept and share this rose as a "welcome back" token for yourself... I haven't been here much myself and didn't realize you've been absent, something that probably should never happen. Or perhaps you might prefer not sharing so here's another you might enjoy with my compliments to your avatar...

Ohhhh what a beauty! That is so kind and thoughtful. Thank you so much and welcome back to you also!
Makes me feel like I'm right back at home here!!!
I'm loving the dog too. She looks black in the photo. I do know they are some of the world's smartest dogs. Our dogs provide us with a lot of laughter and entertainment.

would you mind sharing your settings and setup for this shot?

Let's see Brenda, I think that's your name, right? I used a Canon 5D2, a Canon 100mm Macro II f/2.8L IS for 13 seconds @ f/8, RAW, on a sheet of black plexiglass lit with a small $20 adjustable video led light from the left side with the light turned as low as it will go, very dim. Processed with Canon Digital Photo Professional software, fine tuned with PS Elements.

Mollie is very dark but is referred to as a red, I hear. The first picture above is darker than it should be. Here's another, perhaps a little better. The eyes are a pale greyish green. No welcome back for me - I never really left, just slowed down from eye-strain.

Gosh gessman, I don't mean to monopolize your thread. I have seen some of your work before and I loved it, but I don't recall any still life. If this is not your usual place in photography, I think you had better hang with this along with your other stuff. It's beautiful work and I hope we see a lot more of it.

This is a stunning picture. I may try to duplicate it. Thanks for the idea.

You're entirely too kind horseart. I'm brand new to the still life thing. I get weary of chasing critters around in the woods and shooting my son's football games so I thought I'd try to cultivate something I can do in the basement when the weather's too bad to shoot outdoors. These are my first few attempts but hopefully, it'll get better. Here's one, the first one I really like, and I think it may remain one of my all-time favorites. It's hokey, I know, but I really like the black-white thing and love the reflection. I did run this through SMART Photo Editor and selected an auto-effect that gave it a quasi-hdr look.
