Well, I just spent several hours at my computer and with a "live chat" with some poor sole in India, only to learn that if you have the educational version of CS5, you can't upgrade. Somewhere in the back of my mind I remember that. I can rationalize and say that since I have never paid full price for photoshop, It is now my turn, and grin and bare it. Having used the free trial over the weekend, though, I still think it will be a bargain at $19.95 a month.
It also occurred to me that the poor guy in India is working nights, probably has seven kids, and has to put up with us obnoxious Americans.

I don't know if you're a "pro" or not, but Elements is a wonderful program for under $100. I took a class. At the time I had PSE9 and the computers at school had the full-blown version of PS. I think there might of been 1 thing that I couldn't do on my home computer in Elements. Since then, I've upgraded to PSE11. It's a great program for the money.

I'm not a pro, and I'm not wealthy, and I don't think I'm a snob. I've never worked with Elements or Lightroom, but I started with PS5 back in the '90s, and have taken several classes. I like the fact that when I grow, everything I need will already be there. And while my hobby is photography, I enjoy manipulating my photos, and have some ideas for the future that I have no idea how to do, but I love the journey as much as the destination.

Many programs have a free download trial period, you can see if PSE11 has one.

Hi Buck, the thing is this in my eyes, Lightroom is the best in organizing photos and the things you can't do in LR you can do in PSE11. You have more than enough capabilities to manipulate photos in PSE11.

The guy in India is wrong. That use to be the case but it was done away with. I had an Educational CS5 and upgrades to CS6 with no problem. I ordered online from Adobe.

I'll have to work on that. I'm using the free trial right now. I was working from the Adobe site, but was told that my serial number for CS5 was invalid and I couldn't qualify for the 9.95 price. They are more than happy to charge me full price.

I think I question that. When my son started to Graphic Arts school a couple years ago we bought a copy of CS5 with his student discount. Our options (as given on Adobe's website) were to purchase a student edition of CS5 at a VERY attractive price which came with 1 license and NO option to upgrade, or the retail version of CS5, which still had an attractive price tag but came with 3 licenses and specified it was upgradable. We went with option 2.

I agree with you completely! I like taking pictures but have more fun playing with the software. I also like the fact that full Photoshop has plenty of room for me to "grow into". I was kind of put out when I first read about Adobe's marketing direction, but after I did some of the math, it doesn't look as bad as some make it out to be. I'm currently using Photoshop CS6, which does plenty for me right now, but I'm keeping a close eye on what others say about the "Cloud" version.

You'd better hurry and pay the full price before they tack on the "annoyance fee."

So if I've got this straight, I've done a little research, if you have a valid version of Student/Teacher CS5 Extended, you can sign up for the single application Photoshop CC for the introductory price of $9.99/month and after one year it will double to $19.99/month?

That is what picdude said. The student version of CS5 that I have is not upgradeable. So I have to pay the $20 from the start.

I have Elements 10 and 11 I much prefer 10. I added the Nik software and I haven't found a thing I can't do that I would want to. Ilove the Nik software for B/W

Sorry, I apparently was not being clear. According to Adobe when we were going to purchase software the student/teacher edition is NOT upgradable. Based on that I am not surprised that Adobe is not honoring the $9.99 1st year special for users with the student/teacher edition (I don't agree with it, I'm just not surprised).
