Why does it always have to be “instead of” rather than “in addition to”? A Canadian school has actually banned Mother’s Day and Father’s Day as they are now considered PC. They now have some international family day instead. I don’t object if they want to add their family day but why do they have to disrespect mothers and fathers with their PC nonsense?

Well, it is hard to identify Mother and Father when parents are of the same sex ain't it.

If you have same sex parents, then why can't you just say you have two Mothers or two Fathers? I don't see that this was an issue, until the school made it one.

Fathers Day always was a rip off by the greeting card industry. Mothers day was an extension of a church festival for the mother of Jesus - probably a rip off of some celtic or earlier pagan rite.

Both my parents are dead - enjoy your's EVERY DAY !!!!!and !"^*k the PC brigade.

Could it also be the result of single parent families rather than same sex families?

My two boys grew up without a mother and as a result probably have more respect and admiration for mothers than those who have them.

Really? You're worried about one school's decision in a town of 65,000 about a commercial holiday? Stop it.

Worried? Not hardly just an observation worth pointing out.

Hahahaha, funny one.

Mother's day and Father's day never were official holidays. They were invented about 70 years ago by the Hallmark Card Co. to stimulate sales and FTD and some others jumped on the bandwagon. They couldn't care less about honoring your Father and your Mother. They want to honor their sales figures.

Oh come on. I have a prissy queer nephew (2 generations removed) He is always disparaging straight people and making crass remarks about them. He judges politicians ONLY on their stated stand on homos. There is no world but the queer world in his mind. So ... In my mind you either fail to acknowledge that which is, or YOU are an idiot. Your choice.

All holidays are rip-offs and the worst of it is that people buy into it. Face it, if you can't honor your parents more than one day a year, what good are you?
