Why does it always have to be instead of rather than in addition to? A Canadian school has actually banned Mothers Day and Fathers Day as they are now considered PC. They now have some international family day instead. I dont object if they want to add their family day but why do they have to disrespect mothers and fathers with their PC nonsense?

Fathers Day always was a rip off by the greeting card industry. Mothers day was an extension of a church festival for the mother of Jesus - probably a rip off of some celtic or earlier pagan rite.

My two boys grew up without a mother and as a result probably have more respect and admiration for mothers than those who have them.

Mother's day and Father's day never were official holidays. They were invented about 70 years ago by the Hallmark Card Co. to stimulate sales and FTD and some others jumped on the bandwagon. They couldn't care less about honoring your Father and your Mother. They want to honor their sales figures.
