Pop up flash diffuser

Just saw an advertisement for a pop up flash diffuser for $37.00. Something that works quite well is to just use an opaque 35mm film canister (most photo developing places will give them to you). Cut a hole in the side just big enough so your pop up flash will fit into the canister. Careful they are a little hard to cut but they work great and it's free.

A section of an old plastic milk jug works wonderful too.

I got one that was on eBay that fits in the Hot Shoe and it seems to work fine. It was under $5 with postage and got here in a week. - Dave

If you mean the ones from Kobre, then it's not a 'diffuser'.

If I wanted an inexpensive diffuser for my pop-up flash, I'd buy this:
http://www.amazon.com/Gary-Fong-Puffer-Flash-Diffuser/dp/B0011000R6

But I'm trying to remember the last time I actually used the pop-up on my D200's, and there isn't one on my D2xs.

I have one of the puffer diffusers from Gary Fong. I like it a lot. Works wonders in certain situations. Since the pop-up flash doesn't have as much power as speedlight, you really need a speed light as well to light up a large area. The puffer works well for lighting up faces when taking small group or individual photos no farther than 8 to 10 feet away.

Have one of those also. Bought it before I tried the 35mm idea

And the more 'generic' version....

Love the idea of that bounce reflector from LightScoop.
Of course, you'd have to be under a ceiling or in a party tent for it to work. I have a couple of their LiteGenius scoops. Great products.

I rarely use a diffuser on my SX50 and my 5D MarkII doesn't have a pop up flash. But I like to carry one along when using the SX50 as it easily fits in my pocket and on rare occasions if shooting a snap shot fairly close up it does help.

The ad didn't mention a specific brand as I recall but it did call it a diffuser.

A translucent small plastic cup will also work.

Really...even though you could make one for .25 cents..why bother?

The issue with flash is it's apparent size...diffusing a tiny flash will make a "slightly diffused crappy looking flash" photo....it's not even worth the effort.

Bouncing flash OFF of something huge would but then the on board flash won't have the power to do that.

If you know how to properly use the pop up flash, you can obtain great images. It all depends of what the photographer has at a given time and circumstance.
