Canon and Nikon market their products to a more professional clientel...so they say. There are many good systems out there but like anything else it is a matter preference and of course the budget .In Vietnam my first SLR was a Pentax...shot a million pics and sold it after 15 years...loved it.
look for a good used k10d; it's megapixel count is 10.1 and its qualiltiy build and other features will provide all u need for excellent images; right now, there's one on e-bay being auctioned by Henry's and it looks to be in superb condition; current bid is $228 with over 4-days left; suggest u check it out; I think the camera originally sold for over $1000.
I Have a Pentax k100 (converted to IR)a K10 a k7 and a K5 I Love my pentax cameras I only wish we had the lens selection Cannon and nikon does. I found out Pentax works best with a pentax flash. I shoot MMA. you can see my work at

They make good cameras, have rotten marketing.
Bingo. They need a new marketing department.
I have been using Pentax cameras starting with the Spotmatic, I think that was back in 1968. Then the ME Super, PZ1,PZ1p, istD, K10, K20 and K5. I still have the PZ1 and PZ1p, the K10, K20 and K5. Like you I also have the 18-55 and 55-300mm lens along with a Sigma 100mm F2.8 marco and a Sigma 500, f4.5. The Pentax are great cameras, they just don't spend millions on marketing like some of the other camera companies do. It seems to me that Pentax lets the other companies spend their money developing the new features and then Pentax will copy them in a couple of years, so they are always a little behind on introducing the new features in their cameras. But that also unually means that the Pentax cameras are lower in cost than a comparable Canon or Nikon.
been pentax user since 1960..have used others--never felt/shot right..have the best I could get at the time--x70.
would love a K-7 but can't..so me and my superzoom[and spotmatic] will keep on keeping on..
Welcome from me..glad to see more pentax users..---joe
Great photo's. Pentax has made great camera's for ever. I started with a Honeywell Pentax H1 back in the 1960's. Now use all Canon Gear. Have a friend who has been shooting Pentax digital and doing nice work. He has changed to a Canon 60D and Canon lens because he felt limited be the variety of Pentax lens available. Last I talked with him, he seems happy with the change.
before he bought the canon 60D, did he look a nikon equivalent; is the 60D classified as a "prosuma"?
I have used Pentax for years starting with the P30T. Just purchased my 3rd Pentax DSLR - the K5 (have had the K100, still have K20D). Have had the K-5 a week and find it hard to put down. Performs well at higher ISO, much quieter shutter, clear fast AF. Treated myself to Tamron 18-200mm AF zoom and it makes a great companion to the K-5. I have had other "camera folks" express surprise that I use Pentax, suggesting I should be using another brand if I were "Really serious". Well, I am serious and I seriously love my Pentax. Took these last weekend. I am trying to figure best combo for flash - in camera, off camera. But that's my own ongoing problem. Keep shooting and hold your head (and camera!) high!
These were all taken with the Tamron lens.

I have owned Pentax products over the years, but always had Minolta cameras. When they were bought out by Sony, I went along. Not because Pentax wasn't in the running, . . . or were they?
Flip through a dozen photo mags and count the ads for Nikon, Canon, and Pentax and you will have your answer.
Maybe it just means they are desperate
Sent you a private email. Don't let snobbish and the "general store" Canon/Nikon attitude mess with your talent!
