All are great images, esp. the dog, no the basketball, no the dog, maybe the other one - you get the idea ---tg, another pentax lover

I switched to Pentax 4 years ago from Canon and I'm not looking back. Currently shooting with a K7... backward lens compatibility, in-camera stabilization, weather sealed, access to changes without lifting your eye from the viewfinder, etc. and at a price point that others can't match make buying a pure no brainer! These photos use the kit lenses that came with my previous K20, the 18-55 and the 50-200

I have been a touch disappointed by the difficulty in finding accessories, extension tubes have been backordered for nearly a year(Kenko) and lenses longer than 200mm are practically nonexistent. However, I love the pictures my K20D gives and the ease of operation. My wife shoots Nikon and she is always jealous of my photos when compared with hers :)

Carl Zeiss eventually partnered with Kyocera, maker of Yashica and the Japanese Contax was born. Some have said that camera was the finest built at the time, eclipsing Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Pentax and the Leica R series.

I remember when those cameras first arrived at our store. We did many tests and decided they were worth the money. They are glorious lenses. I use them with Yashica bodies.

Best of both worlds.

I also fell in love with the Leitz Minolta CL. Gave me a less costly camera body and some truly fine optics.

Best of both worlds.

And therein is the issue. Pentax has fine equipment - there just is not enough of it. The reason Nikon and Canon are the dueling 900lb. gorillas is both have incredibly extensive systems and lots of support from third-party sources due to that huge installed base.

It has nothing to do with the quality of what Pentax does have - which is very good.

I agree 100% - perhaps new owners Ricoh will see the many possibilities, secondary producer partners, savvy advertising, etc. I fear Ricoh will concentrate on Pentax's smaller camera line like the Optio rather than dslr - time will tell.

I started with the K-2000 then the K-x then the K-5 have loved all 3 and really love the fact I can use all the old but still great Pentax manual lens and you can find them dirt cheap.

I have a K-5 and LOVE it! Most of my shots are taken with an 18-55 or my newest baby the 60-250. I like the fact that the older lenses we had for our previous Pentax cameras work and that the image stabilization is in the camera. I am new to photography but use it from taking close ups of my flowers to getting pics of my hubby racing. I no longer get pictures of asphalt when the car goes by. If we had not had a Pentax prior to my purchase I was looking at a Nikon D7000.

Pentax introduced the K-mount in 1975 and it or a variation thereof has been the standard mount for all Pentax standard film and digital SLRs since. Any K-mount lens can be mounted on any K-mount body, regardless of which version of the mount they have. I'm using a 50mm prime and a 70-200 zoom, both K-mount, that I originally bought for my K-1000 in the mid-80's and they work just fine on my brand new K-r. Obviously I need to manually focus them, but that's not a big deal; I often manually focus my AF lenses, as well. Best of all, since the IS is in the body on Pentax, it works with my old lenses.

I also like Pentax benefits and feel they outweigh many typical complaints - my K-x is light, uses easily worldwide available AA batteries, has anti-shake in camera, great low light ISO,produces sharp image results if used properly. Only drawback is that canikon produces more lenses and goodies. Perhaps the Ricoh aquisition of Pentax will expand the photo line -time will tell--tg
