You bet they are looking for ways to spend the money ! We cut so much and this hurt so many other people that the legislators are indeed considering what can be restored. They are keeping a cautious eye open, however, for what will continue to be sustainable and what is a one-shot deal.

We just have different conceptions of what government should do, that's all. You and I disagree on the proper role of government. So what's new ?

So CA gets a big one time boost by putting into place a retroactive tax and also enjoys an additional temporary boost caused by portfolio adjustments prior to the capital gains tax increase. Already your state legislators are looking for ways to spend this money before they are certain that the revenue increase is truly sustainable.

Check back with us in a year or two and let us know how that is working out...

If you are referring to myself, I am neither a socialist, a communist, nor a HIGHLY DECORATED past member of the US Armed Forces, nor do I wear dentures GI issued or otherwise. 100% wrong is a telling batting average, isn't it ? That average more or less matches the veracity of your post posts.

Also, this alleged 4 billion surplus is simply a projection, contingent on certain revenue and events happening, not a reality. The figure itself is being debated, some saying there will be a deficit not a surplus.

I hope Richard is correct concerning his beleaguered state and perhaps some of the severe cuts in education etc. will be restored. However, one should be careful about prematurely crowing over government economic predictions. 8-)

Yes, what else is new... I do understand that and I actually respect you as you stand on your principles and generally try to maintain a respectful dialogue even with those with which you disagree.

They are cut and slashers and to hell with the good of the nation. They are slaves to a fake balance sheet that is stuck in some time warp of no growth and to assure the no growth they will cut and slash!

California may be the land of fruits and nuts but the right wing is the land of dumb, stupid, and ignorant!

In case you were unaware of this Richard, usually when someone quotes someone in a post, that is the person they are referring to. :-D

There are so many sidewalk supervisors on here I just have to roll my eyes and laugh at them - I am talking about people in the far corners of the USA who don't live in CA or have ever Lived in CA who don't have ayn first hand knowledge of what is happening in CA can post such BS blaming the Left, Liberals, fruits & nuts - CA is doing well in getting it's debt in line as well as it's economy that took a few terrible hits.
CA not only supplies 1/3 of the agriculture to the rest of the Nation but exports millions of tons to other countries - Rice to the Orient is one of them.

California will survive despite it's corrupt progressive Sacramento government.

Did you read the article in the New York Times ? I didn't see anything about there being a deficit. Maybe wishful thinking made me just skip over that apart, but I don't think so. The wrangling is over two distinct issues: 1) How much the surplus will be; and 2) How that surplus (or even if) it should be spent. Discussions involve primarily Democratic views because the Republicans control very little in Sacramento these days.

If you look at the post again Richard you will see that it was a quote reply to a post by ole sarg.

Ole Sarg,

I don't know how long you have been around, but the former land of milk and honey, currently known as the land of fruit and nuts used to be a triple A state, one of the few in the nation. Sadly, today it barely hangs on to an A1 rating. The current surplus is due to cut and slash to the state budget that was long over due and substantially higher taxes. As a result numerous people and businesses are leaving the state.

To be sure, we in New York are not far behind.

No point in trying to enlighten that old fool Stormy. He knows everything about anything and everyone else is an idiot. Just ask him.

The great thing about statistics is if you don't have the whole story you can manipulate them.

Last year michigan had 10 highway deaths over the Memorial day weekend.
7 people were wearing their seatbelts.
3 people were not wearing their seatbelts.
It is safer not to wear your seatbelt, the statistics prove it. :hunf:

You know, Blurryeyed, you and Croce seem to stand for a coherent set of principles. I wonder if you would clarify what these are, both of you, by simply stating what you think are the legitimate functions of government. Maybe we can have a dialogue about this. I would like to know what you think government SHOULD do, not what you think government SHOULD NOT do. This might develop into an interesting conversation.
