We are supposed to have a Super Moon this weekend. This is when the moon is closest to the earth. I live on the beach and would like some help on settings to capture some good shots of the moon. Also hope to get some of the moon and the reflection over the ocean.
Thanks

Just remember the moon glow is direct sun reflection and expose accordingly.

I'm not sure if it's a Waxing Gibbous or full moon tonight but I took this pic by the beach here.

Beautiful shot. What were the conditions like, particularly air quality index?

Lunar phase on 24 May 2013 Friday is Waxing Gibbous.

Full Moon on 2013-05-25 05:27 after 0.7 day

Now Jerryc41! Feel the mood of the moon, do not be obsessed by 18% grey scale. Have you left instructions that when you die the recycled mixed fabric lining of your casket made of recycled poly-wood be an 18% gray? The autopsy will show that your brain, grey matter, is strangely an exact match for an 18% reflectance.

Mood Jerry mood, not bleached white lime, CaO, white of lime light... mood... Frankly I love it...

Jerryc41 at 18%

I hope no one took me seriously. That picture of me you so kindly enlarged shows just how I'm feeling this morning. :D

What kind of settings do you use, tried last night with no success?

CC using UHH search you will find about 75 topics. Typically you use day time "overcast" settings with your longest lens. My pan ZS20 I have used iso 100 and 200, 1/80, 1/125 and f ranging from 8-4.6. I find it is better to under expose than over expose once bright is clipped, it is gone.

Atmospheric moisture can cause a lot of ringing around the moon. I think here in Florida that winter is to only time to get a clear shot, otherwise the world is wet a haze of steam.

I used custom WB for the shot not AWB. The idea was to capture the hue of the sky as it actually was just after sunset during moonrise. The sky had a reddish tint with the moon a golden color.
AWB wanted to make the scene way too (cool) blue.

They showed this photo on our ABC TV News last night at 11pm.

Well, I sent them the 18% photo of you, Jerry, and feel badly they did not put it on the evening news. At best I put it on the back wall of the local post office along with accountants and politicians and other scoundrels,,, not that you are a scoundrel,, you are just too dull at 18% to have done any thing wrong. Fun to pick on you Jerry,,,, thank you for being ...you are a great contributor to UHH.

The less I see of myself on the evening news, the better. The same goes for my portraits being displayed in post offices.

Thanks for the compliment. Likewise, I'm sure.
