I use OpTech exclusively and just spent 3 days RUNNING all over the Special Olympics taking literally THOUSANDS of shots with two Nikon D800's and lenses on the OpTech Double Sling. Not a bit of a problem. In fact, if it were not for the give and the comfort of the OpTech system I am sure there would have been no way I could have carried two D800 setups for 14 hours a day!!
Nothing out there that will compare to OpTech's offering as, and I have tried them all.
Black Rapid? They are OK, but the tripod socket attachment design is seriously flawed. One should NEVER attach a strap to the bodies tripod socket. As for attaching the strap to the tripod collar of a lens that has one? I think that is just fine and have done so. I have (and sell in my store) the Caden Double Strap which attaches to the tripod socket. I sell them as well as rent then with the strong warning that you attach them ONLY to the tripod collar of the lens, and NEVER to the camera body.

Many thanks for your detailed and well informed advice.
Most appreciated.
Can't get optech in NZ but have found they have a dealer in Australia.
Will email them and we what the price is over there.
Problem we have buying in Australia is the exchange rate and the freight often makes it too hard to get past Mrs Tonyp .
Cheers

But I have an Optec, love it, and don't see a problem when walking, running, standing, sitting, whatever.
There's not a bit of stretchy material on it!

Thanks Esther.
May I ask what model you have?
Seems there are a number of combinations and I won't be able to 'try before I buy'.
Cheers

I have the Optech Utility Sling. I'd recommend it over some of the Other Optech produces as it's more beefy and takes more weight than some of the others.

It's called "bino-harness".
Divides the weight of the camera over both shoulders.

Thanks Esther. That sounds like what I want.
I'm a skinny 135lb and bony.
The strap around my neck for long walks gives me a pain in the neck. And the swinging means I have one hand holding the camera. I often carry 2 cameras so also have the other in my hand as well. (dont like 2 straps around my neck).

Thanks for the referral. AND only 20 bucks!
Pity they wont ship to NZ! By the time I got one of these from Aust,
with freight and exchange rate its probably nearly $100 NZ.

Hi. I have recently started to use this strap and love it. It is so comfortable and easy to use, yes it is a bit expensive in NZD but worth every cent. Also their delivery is fantastic. From placing the order to receiving the product was about 4 days.

Hi Coach Monkey,
Where did you buy it?
How much $$?
Nice to see another Kiwi on the stage.
We shifted from Auckland (Coatesville) to Tauranga a few years
ago. Still miss the Gulf  Dont miss the traffic :)

My experience of a Black-Rapid is that because it swings at your side the bolt which connects it to the camera body comes loose and OOPS your camera has clattered to the ground. It happened to me with a D700 but fortunately the camera fell on grass and was undamaged.

I never hear anyone mention the LensLoop camera strap but I have been using this strap for some years now and love it. It is comfortable, strong and made in the USA. It does attach to the tripod mount which I know some of you don't like. I asked the guys at the camera shop if it was safe to use the tripod mount for the strap and they said that it was actually stronger than the strap lugs and would be no problem.
This is where ordered the strap. http://www.lensloop.com/

I have to fully agree with this. We just bought optech straps for our cameras after owning black rapids for about 6 months. I have seen photos where a camera supported by the tripod socket actually tore out the plastic case of the bottom of the camera. The tripod socket is made for inward pressure and not designed for outward pressure that the Black Rapid and other straps cause. So if the tripod socket does not pull out from the bottom, the case of the camera gives way and you lose the whole camera case.

Esther is right on again. I have checked all areas of my optech strap and the only place I found any stretch is in the collar pad that fits on your shoulders. This is a soft material and if you try and stretch it you can. The stretch that you will get out of it is about 1/8 inch. Not enough to hardly notice. The straps and connectors are made of a nylon type material. Maybe if you put them in a machine that pulls them you might be able to force some stretch out of them. But that would be more force than using them in a tug of war game. If you are running and your cameras are bouncing all over then you are not holding your cameras. If you run with the manufacturers strap and the camera is hanging around your neck, the camera will bounce all over the place if you don't hold the camera.
