So far I am liking it the only problem is it can scare some of the skittish bugs

That's been my only complaint as well. But when you can get 'em, yours are outstanding!

I went back to shooting without tubes, and that helped some with scaring of bugs, and except for the smallest of insects, I get sharper images.

Love the first one.. Notice a few hot spots. Have you tried paper towel over the diffuser, or just straight up. I liked the jumpers you posted the other day, but your flash was not as hot as in this group. Did you do something different with the last jumpers??

Been playing around with settings trying to get a little more ambient light

These were shot at f/16, ISO between 80-320, flash 1/4 Power

I love the lighting. The spider shot is probably my favorite but the insect with the refraction is pretty cool as well.

I'm gonna try dropping the extension tubes as well because I've noticed a drop in sharpness as well. I'm waiting for components recommended/used by Geff (Blurreyed) to move my flash box over the top (from the side).

Have you posted your new set-up in Macro set-ups?

Yea it is in the Set up thread here: http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-32754-4.html#2000020

What I like about the set up is that I can put the flash anywhere I want: top, side, or anywhere between. And it is easy to do with the turn of one knob.

Tim - You also nailed the focus in every shot. I am assuming this was manual focus with the Lester Dine? Do you use anything that helps you see the critical focus? I struggle with this--esp with critters that are <2mm in size.

From your set-up it looks like you have the "CamGeeker 7" articulating arm".
