Shot these on a Meetup group outing Sunday. 6:00 AM in the Rose Garden at McKinley Park- great outing and a great day to work with the Diffuser, aperture and shutter to try to get it right!

Thanks Nikonian, the home made diffuser that I got off the UHH site produced better results for me than the O-flash.

Earlier this year, several of us built similar diffusers like this. Through trial & error, we found that projecting a wide, diffused light straight down, really enhances detail in insect subjects. Here are a few of the latest versions:

Nice shots. The second insect is a Crane Fly. There seems to be a strong amber tint or cast to the images. Was that intentional?

Try using Paper towel as your diffuser material, plastic packing material does not diffuse the flash properly. Glad to see your working the macro lens.
