Under the bark of my rotting pine tree was this rather interesting Homopteran. It's an immature form, as shown by the developing wing pads, but what I found most interesting are the very large wax pores at the posterior of the abdomen. They're REALLY pumping out the waxy filaments. Total body length is about 5-6 mm.
I went back to take more photos of this thing because I wasn't satisfied with the enlargement of the pores, but they had slipped away. Once I had pulled the bark back, it was just too hot, or too much light, or too........ something.
Bummer.
It also taught me a lesson once knew but had forgotten: ALWAYS take a jar with you - just in case.
:)
very interesting,good shots.tom
Excellent!
I do not see a photograph of your macro set-up in our Macro Equipment Set-Up thread. What camera/lens/illumination set-up used?

It's there, but needs updating. I used a Canon 7D, 100mm macro with Raynox M-250 attached.
I'm also using an off camera speedlight with DIY diffuser instead of the in-camera flash unit.
