Really nmice shots of them. We've had turkeys hereabouts for years, with a flock of up to nineteen at a time scavenging at our bird feeders. However, haven't seen hide nor hair of them since mid-February, and they're usually daily visitors. Very tame, too. We're able to walk amoung them while filling the feeders, and they barely back away.

Thanks Treepusher. I appreciate it.

Ours seem to be here year round. I don't think they migrate, and yet I remember a time when we never saw them. Now they seem to be everywhere in this area. They roost in the trees and start their morning foraging as soon as it starts to get light. They seem to spend time under the trees during the day but are back out at dusk, ready to fly up into the trees for the night.

They were out again this morning - about 7:30 AM. I got off a few shots before they disappeared under the trees.

Wow vicksart, that's more wild turkeys then I have seen in one place. Great shots

Thanks Gregory. We get so many, they're often hard to count. A while back we had what I called a "turkey convention." I counted about 80. Usually they split off into smaller groups of 25-30. It could be that they mix things up to keep from inbreeding too much.

Holy Cow.....80? Are you serious? You must live in a no hunting zone for that many to be around.

That's how many I was able to count (give or take a couple). They were moving around as I tried to count them, but I think I was pretty close. There might have been more under the trees that I missed. Usually they appear in smaller groups.

There's no hunting in this area - too many houses. Maybe the turkeys know that. :-)

I am sure that they do.....they are FAR from being dumb birds.

They are fun to watch, aren't they? Guess by now you've figured out to watch where you step! That stuff really stinks! Super shots.

Yes, they are fun to watch or at least interesting. One morning a coyote tried to catch one without much success. They didn't seem too worried and were always just enough ahead. The coyote left without his meal.

Nice shots, they remind of something funny that happened this weekend, I was coming down out of the mountains and saw probably the largest wild turkey I had ever seen, it wouldn't let me pass. Every time I started to move a little he would ram the SUV and make a huge racket and flap his wings wildly, when I would stop so would he, when I started to move he would attack again, finally after about 5 min of this I was able to go around him.

Was he attacking his reflection? I've seen them fan their tails and put on a show to the bird in the hubcap.

Thanks for looking, too.

I was coming down out of several ft of snow at almost 7000 ft and the SUV was all dirty so I don't think there was anything that he could see himself in, I think he was just in a bad mood, had I not already put my camera away I could have gotten a shot or two.

I didn't think of that, you just may be right, and I was keeping him from his sweetie.
