These shots don't show the whole group. Just wait until the chicks start hatching. Occasionally they fly up on the roof. There's quite a racket when they start running around.
Thanks.
Wow - That's loads of them. It must be fantastic when you get the chicks as well. Lovely photo's to see.

Thanks Georgie. Maybe I'll post some with the older chicks when they start coming around. We rarely see the really young birds. I suspect they stay back under the trees where the hawks won't spot them.

Wow wild Turkeys, The only time we see Turkeys is in the Supermarket Freezer!!. But what a lovely sight and great shots.
I sometimes wonder if we are being over run with them.
They are every where in our region and have become a traffic hazard in some places. The males, at this time of year, are chasing people out walking and we notice when ever they come into our yard, all the other birds disappear.
They have very sharp spurs on their legs which can injure people or pets. So, be careful when you are out photogrhing.
They are protected by law in these parts -- can't hunt them or harass them in any way.
The danger for the turkey is that their population is exploding and some disease may kill off the species.

Oh vicksart = It would be lovely to see if .........they agree. Thankyou.
Oh Thats what they look like! :) I'm presently in Central GA hunting them and have only seen 1 (a fleeting glimpse).
Thanx for the pics, they're a breatiful and wily bird in the wild.......smarter than me.

Thanks Doddy. They're pretty amazing. What impresses me most is the height of the toms. I've come within 20 feet of them (sorry, no camera proof) and would guess they're close to 4' tall.

I've come fairly close but have never felt threatened. They usually just walk away. My dogs have enjoyed chasing them out of the yard, and we have witnessed how well they fly.
Disease may be a serious factor in limiting numbers since there don't seem to be many natural predators. I've seen coyotes try to catch them with no success. It's possible the nests are getting robbed enough to keep the population down.
