Any recommendations on some go to places for photography while in Charleston? Appreciate any ideas that might not be in the typical travel brochures.
Charleston is beautiful in all directions-The Rainbow Row houses are stunning, the ships, the beach, there's an old fort, on and on. The carriage rides are beautiful as well as fun, and they give carriage tours as well. My husband and I once followed one of the tours on foot with the camera and got all the history at the same time :)

Get a local map. Check the small roads just out side the city in the smaller towns and quiet places. There you'll see real old buildings and the such. Charleston is a beautiful city, but everything is in the tourist manual. Hope that helps a little.

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens outside of Charleston is a great place to visit!

Yes, I forgot about that place! It's beautiful! If I remember correctly, you can get a boat ride to see the old rice and indigo fields. Also thers a place to see old slave shacks. Make sure you have your camera! I believe it's south of Charleston.

Been going there for years, and I still find new places to go take pictures ... as well as going back to a lot of old favorites.
Have fun, and come back often!

I will be hooking up with fellow hogger, Mr. Bridges on the 30th of March to do exactly what you're asking. Hopefully your trip will be rewarding as I look forward to mine.
I am much interested in Civil War history and have been to Fort Sumpter.I would say to skip it,not worth the trip
There are so many places to photograph in Charleston it would be impossible to name all of the here. I would suggest you do you homework prior to arrival and allot enough time to take as many in as possible. Forts, gardens, arts, downtown buildings, carriage rides, the battery, Yorktown aircraft carrier, and many many more.

Great place for photography. All the other suggestion are spot on. I would suggest shooting the Avenal bridge also, just over the bridge is a destroyer, sub and aircraft carrier Yorktown all at Patriot Point.
