Biden Stays at London, Paris Hotels; Two Nights, $1 Million

Vice President Joe Biden’s one-day trips to Paris and London in February cost American taxpayers more than $1 million, according to multiple reports.

Biden and his security detail rung up a $585,000.50 tab for a single night on Feb. 4 at the Hotel Intercontinental Paris Le Grand, a luxurious five-star hotel near the Louvre Museum, The Weekly Standard reports.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail in London reports that Biden’s group spent $459,388.65 for one night on Feb. 5 at the Hyatt Regency in London, where the vice president met with Prime Minister David Cameron.

The contract for the London trip specified that Biden’s crew required 136 hotel rooms for that one-night stay, The Daily Mail reports.

Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, accompanied him to Paris on his European trip, which also included a stop in Germany.

The Mail reports that Biden’s entourage required more than 100 rooms at Le Grand. One night in the presidential suite there costs more than $3,800.

Here’s how the Intercontinental Paris Le Grand is described on its website:

“With floodlit views of the Opera House, this superbly renovated luxury hotel is at the heart of Parisian society. Opened in 1862, it defines historical grandeur, from Café de la Paix to La Verriere Restaurant, set in an 800 square metre winter garden. Elegantly appointed, the hotel’s boutique-style suites overlook stunning landmarks. Located … close to the Louvre Museum, shopping, theatre and banking districts, this luxury Paris hotel is an icon in the City of Light.”

Reaction was swift to Biden’s lavish spending.

“Still no WH tours, but VP Biden’s recent trip to Europe racked up $1mil in hotel room bills,” said U.S. Rep. Randy Neugebauer, R-Texas, among dozens to vent outrage on Twitter.

Hmmm imagine if his efforts were to get us out of Afghanistan a day or a week or a month early. Or if they were to keep us out war with Iran. Imagine the savings. More diplomacy and less shooting.

This is no longer a representative republic. It's more or less a monarchy.

There's 20% penalty that's automatically deducted when early withdrawal is done for any IRA account and the Investment organization does tell the account owner before the withdrawal is completed. If you didn't include this penalty in your itemized deductions, you should have under "other taxes paid". You can file an amended return to include this payments and probably reduce your IRS debt to a minimal amount.

With regard to this thread by POUNDER, It amazes me that reporting of the hotel expenses were not reported during the Bush administration. I'm sure the had to not only rent the whole floor for of a hotel for both Bush and Chaney. when they traveled, but probably needed to rent both the floor above and the floor below for security purposes. The rental of the whole floor of suites is standard practice for heads of state during foreign travel.

How much was the interest rate?

Doesn't matter. Someone down the road will pay it.

Meanwhile, I'm unemployed and I just got a letter from the IRS that I owe an additional $985 for 2011when I was taking money out of my IRA incurring a HUGE tax penalty because I refuse to go on welfare. All this while the illegals are consuming our resources free of charge.

This country is in the toilet.

While you are to be commended for trying to stay off welfare the rules on withdrawing money from IRA's are very clear as to tax liabilities. I am surprised that the people you had your IRA with didn't inform you of these taxes when you withdrew the money and subtracted them from the amount you withdrew. Either that or they took it out but the amount deducted was in error due to a low estimate of taxes owed.

Wow, what a Democratic VP perk.

I'm sure a Republican VP would stay at Motel 6.

No, he/she would have stayed at a nice place. I just think a Republican VP wouldn't have included a whole entourage of sycophants that are brought along to play to the crowds and feed off the public teat in the process.

Then how come George W. used the taxpayer's money to use an airforce jet to land on a zillion dollar carrier just for a photo-op. to say "mission accomplished"?...Hell, the mission is still going. Talk about waste.

You republicans simply cannot get over having your heads handed to you last November, can you?

Why not put a little effort into what the idiot son named dubya spent on so-called official business when he trotted home to texas every other week. Or maybe how much he spent to rent an aircraft carrier so he could pose under the ship's island with a huge poster telling us "mission accomplished"? And all America paid for a combat carrier task force to show off the amidan grinning for his "fans".

Those 8 years of idiots being in power cost us thousands of GI lives and trillions of dollars, quadrupulling the national debt. Write your imbecellic little rants about that why don't you.
