First, I was curious on why you were getting rid of them if they work with the 5d III (I have one also).

Do not want to get rid of them, do not think I said that, said I wanted to have ideas of what I could do with them , how I could use them. I have L series equivalents, so why use these when I have the faster 'L's

I don't know anything about the different Canon mounts but I do know that there are adapters available to convert Canon lenses to other systems. I found this listing on BH.

The Canon EF-M Lens Adapter Kit for Canon EF / EF-S Lenses enables you to mount Canon EF and EF-S lenses onto the Canon EOS-M mirrorless digital camera, which has an EF-M lens mount. It is fully compatible with all lens functions, including image stabilization and autofocus

This may be of interest to someone with EF M lenses.

Things to do with old camera lenses:

* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsEQJ2JzXxo
* Sell
* donate to 2nd hand store
* Adapt to DSLR
* as you suggested - make a tilt shift lens
* An expensive ant/worm solar fryer
* or see the attached pic

just don't trash them...

Anyone got any creative ideas on what I can try with a few old lenses.

I have a Canon 5D MkIII and the lenses are compatible with that, auto focus and aperture all work ..seem fully compatible.

They are free basic kit zooms:
Canon 35-70 f3.5-4.5 EF
Canon 70-210 f4 EF
Sigma 28-200 f3.5-5.6.

Not worth selling for what I would get for them so was wondering if there were any uses for them other that door stops.
Can be destructive..cut and shut home made tilt shift? Cut and reverse part for macro?

Jsut wondering if anyone had any interesting ideas?

List them on eBay. Test em out first, take 'good' pictures of them, and then box em up ready to post. They'll sell. Use no reserve. I've sold a lot of camera gear and ham radio gear. None of that stuff needs a reserve. You'll be surprised.

In my case it was the other way around, I bought the new camera and lenses, and months later was given these lenses

This is the sort of suggestion I was hoping for.

Not interested in selling them, want to try and use them

Sad to say that the Salvation Army is the best place for them (collectors buy 'em; you take a tax write-off). But old enlarging lenses? Different story! Get a Leica screw T-Mount, put'em on a bellows or extension tube for GREAT close-ups (especially the 6-element ones).

Sounds to me like you already made up your mind. Keep us up to date on what you end up with. If you go cutting on the bodies, I think you end up with not much more than one hell of a nice Ant Hill WMD!:}

Well, no, not really. The macro option in the link I posted is one idea. Whst I was after was other ideas along similar lines.
I never intended to get rid of them, so in thst respect, my mind was already made up, I was keeping them, that was not in question.

I mean the Tilt Shift idea... Is that even possible.

If you don't want to sell 'em I suggest you use them. You might be surprised unless you own some "L" glass.

I think the answers you're getting is to be expected from photographers... Most of us wouldn't use good/decent/bad glass as an experiment. We will use it (as intended), sell it, donate it, give it away but not try to invent new things by tearing them apart. Maybe an inventors forum? Tell them what you have and ask for suggestions. Lol. And good luck!
