Photography Week did a comparison and gave the thumbs-up to the Nikon.

Has anyone done a comparison of the EOS 6D and the D600? Any recommendation as to which one is better as I am thinking of buying a full frame DSLR.

If u have 1 or more good Nikon lenses, go with the D600. If u have 1 or more good Canon EF lenses, go with the 6D.

I have to tell ya straight up, I'm a Canon guy. I have the EOS 5D MK II and the EOS 7D along with a bunch of EF/EF-S glass along with Speed Lights and battery grips, extra baterries, chargers and the whole ball of wax.

That said, I really have to wonder what Canon was thinking when they brought out the 6D. It's like an answer to a question that nobody asked.

Yeah, it's full frame but that's about it. It has GPS and WiFi but those are two features that I would hardly ever use (no one else I know uses them either unless you're an international traveling photojournalist).

You can either go whole hog & buy the EOS 1-DX (at a whopping $6,800), or scale it down to the 5D MK III (at $3,500). The 6D is going for about $2,100 but the 5D MK III gives you a better sensor and a lot better autofocus system (similar to the 7D but a little faster).

It seems that Canon is offering the 6D as a way for advanced amatures to get into full frame but down the road, I think most buyers of the 6D are going to kick themselves for not having bought the 5D MK III (or picking up a refurbished 5D MK II dirt cheap).

If I had to do it over again, I would have saved up the extra $1,500 and bought the 5D MK III.

If you have not read Ken Rockwell's review of the 6D - you NEED to ! For me, it is the availability and compatibility of totally great used lens since 1987 for Canon. Nikon's lenses are only now catching up - so for most GOOD Nikon lenses you must buy NEW.

Maybe so, but Rockwell is kind of an ego maniac when it comes to photographic equipment reviews.

I'd just as soon rely on DP Review or Outdoor Photographer.

According to the Nikon D600 manual (pg. 106) the camera will reach ISO equivalent ranges from 8000-25600. Obviously anything at these ranges will come with added noise.

Neither one.. bad history for both, even as new as they are....

For the Canon 6D... It's wart is video. See a search on Canon 6D on

Canon 6D video:

https://www.google.com/search?q=Canon+6D+video+problems&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Although gets good rating as a still camera, video a problem. So how important is the video, and even if you don't care, what about resale limited to non video users.

Nikon D600, Well of course the Oil on sensor problem, AND a horrendous score of 2 out of 10 on repairability:

http://www.petapixel.com/2012/11/08/teardowns-of-nikon-d600-reveal-sony-sensor-hard-to-replace-lcd-screen/

So it appears that in the CaNikon race to provide a "good" under $2000 FF camera, they have both produced and are selling "mediochre or cheap", slightly over $2000 FF cameras. OK..I know the D600 dropped to move the early cameras that had a high incidence of Oil on Sensor problem, and I know a few people who bought early did not experience the problem... But.

It appears that cheap FF DSLR's are in the same frame of reference as Entry Level as far as incidence of repair.

I think it's funny that one snapsort advantage the Canon has over the Nikon is the number of lenses available. Canon has 125, and Nikon has 121. Imagine going on vacation with over 100 lenses. The mount on the camera would be in need of regular replacement. :D

That's why D700 or MKII are still good buys.

Check out the Ken Rockwell photography site. He highly recommended the 6D over the Nikon 600. His thoughts figured mightily in my decision to step up to a FF camera. Mine just arrived a week ago so I'm "playing" with it and so far I really love it.

Snapsort is a bad site to compare Nikon vs Canon. Nikon ALWAYS wins.

They are Nikon fans and to me, seem to hate Canon.

Both good cameras, 6D has an edge with Canon lenses / "L" lenses.

That's what I was beginning to think about Photography Week, but they thought the Nikon superior. A bit surprising.

Both have pros and cons. I chose the D600 because it has a flip up flash, very useful at times and missing from the 6D. Also got a great deal on the kit with 24-85 VR lens for under 2k. So far, I'm delighted with the results. It took some study to learn how to use the camera and I'm still learning, but the images are great when I do my part. I doubt you can go wrong with either the D600 or 6D, get what you like! Bear in mind there are some strong opinions about this on UHH ;-)

Lack of a flash on the 6D was one of the reasons PW rated the D600 higher... for the flash fill capabilities.

Based on unbiased reviews, it would appear that if you already have some good glass that fits one or the other, then choose that one.
