As I approach full retirement, photography will be a major recreational activity. I recently purchased a Nikon D600 and a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 lens. I would like to add an ultra wide angle lens such as Nikon 14-24 0r 16-35mm. Any suggestions?
I have the Tokina 11-16 F2.8 for my D90. The version for the D600 would be the 16-28. I love the lens. The Ken Rockwell site mentioned above is a great site. That's where I got the info to buy this lens. He likes it.

I agree, I tend to find he is about as honest a person as is possible and very unbias
Since everybody is quoting Rockwell, he owns both the 14-24 and the 16-35. He says the 14-24 is the sexy one but he prefers to use the 16-35. I got the 16-35 and love it. Since 99% of the use of this lens for me will be outdoors I didn't feel the extra 2mm and 2.8 were worth the additional cost.
Thanks to all of you for the good advice.

I'm gearing up for same. I have D800 and the 70-200. I added the 16-35. I use it 3 times as much as the 70-200. It's just great for landscapes. Here's a thread where I posted some recent shots. The first is with the telephoto; all the rest are with the wide angle. Download the original of the second shot to see what that lens is capable of.

I have the 14-24 and it is a very good wide angle. Don't overlook a fisheye. Nikon's 16mm does a good job with little of the fisheye distortion; you can also get extemely close

I second this recommendation, as I also have the D90 and Tokina 11-16. Great lens, and I also bought it based on Ken Rockwell's article. The zoom range is small, so it is not a really flexible lens, but I most use it at 11 mm for architectural interiors anyway.
I retired 3 years ago and have been able to pursue my photography interest full time. I have the D600, and the D7000, and I use the 17-35 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8, and 70-200 f2.8. The 17-35 f2.8 is an ideal match for the D600, they compliment each other and represent the best in their class. Also, you will learn that the only bad thing about retirement is you didn't do it 40 years ago.

I have Nikon's 10-24 and really enjoy it on both my D90 and my D800 and not all that pricy.
I don't know. I've read Rockwell's reviews on both. It would be hard to pass up the 14-24mm, if you already have something like the 24-200mm, or the 28-300mm.
