In other words, geysers, hot springs and colorful pools. Color is mostly from different forms of algae, some of which lives in pools as acidic as battery acid.
The photography was a challenge due to all the steam in the winter, but the scenery was awsome. Hopefully some of my shots translate the beauty of the place.
Honestly some of the places are other-worldly looking such as Porcelain Hot Springs.
Enjoy,
Greg

Vixen Geyser small but explosive from 10 ft. away
I left out camera and lens info. Here it is:
The first shot was taken with D800 and 70-200 at 150mm.
All the others were taken with my 16-35mm, mostly at 16 mm except for Vixen geyser was 25 mm and I used a higher ISO to get a faster shutter speed to try to catch the water "exploding."
The first two shots had late afternoon sun. The rest of the shots were on a very cloudy dull day. Since you have to reserve trips back into the park well ahead, you are at the mercy of mother nature for weather and light.
Thankfully Lightroom lets you compensate somewhat.
Absolutely stunning on the three that can be downloaded when downloaded they don't even look like the same photos, good work. Is that the camera you used that is at the bottom of your post? You posted before I did on the camera, sorry
Your "Explosion" image gets the message across.
The downloads of each really improve the scenes colors, especially "Mammoth Hot Springs Riot of Colors".
Greg, those downloads makes you feel like you are right there!! Great photos!
Thank you all so much. I can post the full-resolution links, but the forum rules say to try to limit doing that for band-width usage reasons--so I just linked the ones I thought would benefit the most.
I agree with the comments about how the full images look so much different. Obviously, they are higher resolution but the difference almost goes beyond that. Maybe someone can explain why that is.
Honestly, if you can't get good shots in Yellowstone, perhaps you have no pulse. It's an absolute wonderland in the winter without the crowds of summer.
I will take credit for one thing: All the shots were handheld and when I zoom in, I'm happy with the sharpness. Right or wrong, I make up for not using the tripod by taking multiple shots and using "mirror up" setting. Plus, the VR of the lenses helps a lot.
These are some excellent shots!
Greg: Great set. Awesome spot. I have this area on my bucket list.
Thanks for posting
Steve
Greg, you have captured the "feeling" of the park in the winter! Good job!

Beautiful shots. I like the snow / thermal mix.
Thank you for sharing.
