The transporter sounds cool. However, the idea of transporting is that your body is broken down into subatomic particles that are sent through space as an electronic signal and then reassembled. There's a controversy that states that if you are reduced to subatomic particles you are, in essence, killed. When your bits are reassembled, you have a perfect copy, memories and all, of the original you that was killed. It's not the original you, just a perfect copy. If true, only inanimate objects could be safely transported, or living beings that we don't care whether or not they retain their original state of being. The thing is, unless you knew you were about to die, you wouldn't have a clue that life as you knew it was about to end, and would go happily to your death. There wouldn't even be a body to bury. Creepy idea.

Someone told me about this, so I tried it. When you begin typing a search in Google, it guesses what words will come next, based on searches by other people. Here is what people have Googled about the moon.

The moon is a hollow star that is bigger than the Earth. Those questions are based on the many queries people have made on Google. They obviously know something we don't. What's their secret? Who are they? Do they live on the Earth? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL

The rationale I heard was that supposedly the dogs will see people looking up and they would stare at the sun to try and figure out what everybody was looking at ! Of course, the radio news story also stated after the reasoning that will people 'tend to use eye protection and the dogs will not'.
You would think SOMEBODY should tell the dogs to use the eclipse glasses !

If only someone knew how to speak dog, all these dog victims could be spared a lifetime of misery.

Whenever Jerry posts an informative piece of information he includes a link to the article.
I was looking at the UHH home page and found a section that shows Forum Statistics. One of the statistics is 'Top 5 users in the last 24 hours'. Guess who was number 1 today. That's right, jerryc41 by a wide margin. I wouldn't be surprised if Jerry snags that statistic on most days.

Yes, Jerry is the master of the informative link. In the relatively short time I've been on UHH, I've never seen him do a "fake news" type of post, i.e., he may have a item on fake news, but his subjects are never fake themselves. This must be his superpower, or something.

Following the last few eclipses, I do not remember hearing of ANY dogs, cats, horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, coyotes, deer, wombats, pandas, birds, bats, rats, voles, cockroaches, spiders, flies or any sea life being blinded by the sun. Only humans seem susceptible to this problem.

Yes, you don't hear of any wild animals being blinded by the sun, because, once blinded, they are no longer able to fend for themselves, and so they crawl into the bushes and die unseen. This is a joke, but if it were true, that's probably what they'd do. That's why we never see most of the smaller animals that become sick and die, or die for some other reason. They all hide for protection when they are not feeling well enough to lead their usual lives. Ever see a dead turtle that wasn't hit by a car? I've looked and never found one.

Trump has never been bankrupted you liar lol......where is your evidence of his bankruptcy? What did happen as it does with many wealthy people with many business adventures and investment is 5-6 of his businesses and investments did file for bankruptcy. Consider that Trump has over 500 different businesses and investment companies, 6 went into bankruptcy out of over 500...that's about a 98% success rate....I would not call that a failure at all...obviously a Libtard like you would. Again, Trump himself has NEVER been bankrupted as you have asserted, but some of his business adventures have....
Trump has never been bankrupted you liar lol......... (show quote)

You know, when people are in error, they need to be corrected, not put down with pejorative epithets. It makes you look desperate.

I spent some time on this subject. First, his businesses went bankrupt only four times, that I could find out. Because he brands his businesses with his name, when they go bankrupt, his name is attached to the news of the bankruptcy - "Trump went bankrupt." This has lead people, including myself, to conclude that it was himself that went through the process. He survived these bankruptcies, because he did not personally suffer the consequences of bankruptcy. In fact, the businesses did Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is reorganization, not total loss of everything. So I stand corrected - thank you for making me do some research on this issue.

He may have over 500 businesses, but he has little, if anything, to do with the day-to-day operations of these businesses. And he apparently was not in control enough to prevent the heavy cost overruns that the bad ones had. That is not being a good businessman. His businesses are essentially completely handled by other people.

I tried to find if any other wealthy person, or their business, had gone bankrupt even two times, but I could not. Warren Buffet, one of the richest people in the world ($79 billion), owns many businesses himself, and has only gone bankrupt once. Many people lose a lot of money during bankruptcies, and the fact that Trump sees no problem with this, and, for some reason, thinks that this is good business - it certainly is not fair or ethical. It is predatory capitalism. How can a uncaring mentality like this make for a good politician on any level?

Benghazi?

The investigations into the Benghazi event cost us taxpayers millions of dollars with no legal findings worthy of indictment or even censure. And besides, the CIA is responsible for embassy security, maybe that's why. For some reason, it was never mentioned that during the Bush Presidency, 13 American embassies were attacked, and 66 people were killed. Why wasn't this brought up? As a result, few people even know about it. Doesn't this fit the definition of hypocritical?

Another interesting fact is that Mumbai, India, a city of 25 million people, has the highest population of Leopards on earth. Google Mumbai leopards. It's interesting (not to mention scary) how the population deals with the situation. The leopards hunt both wild pigs and stray dogs in the city at night. humans are attacked on occasion.

I just crossed night photography in Mumbai off my bucket list.

I wonder if that's true. I am not familiar with this strip - are they potentially controversial? Usually newspapers stop a regular feature due to lack of interest, or, in the case of comics, the price is, or becomes, too high to afford. I've seen several (still running elsewhere) comic strips that were not controversial on any level, but that whoever is in charge of setting the cost thinks that the strip is worth more than the paper is willing to pay. Many, if not most, newspapers no longer make much money, so the bottom line squeezes out a lot of quality material. You may notice that many magazines can be subscribed for $10 or $15 a year - cheaper than they were 10 or 20 years ago. They can afford that, because the advertising is so lucrative. I bet that low price only covers handling and mailing.

Sorry but you have a short memory. "Hope and Change" was the other guy, the last 8 years.

Trump didn't say "hope and change," but everything he said leaned that way. He was going to change essentially everything. The major reason Trump voters say they voted for him was for a change from the usual, according to everything I ever saw or heard. When you want change, you also hope things will get better. The two terms go hand in hand, thus my statement to that effect.

The fact that you point out "she's a fully embedded part of the system" is why she lost the election.... Whatever faults President Trump has and there are many he is a breath of fresh air in DC. He tells it like he sees it and is honest about his feelings. Honesty is something you seldom see or hear from politicians, both parties, they never answer a question. No I don't agree with everything our President does or says... What I can't understand is why the Democrats didn't join the President and provide the votes to repeal the ACA. That would have put the monkey on the Republicans back to have to fix it.... We have a real mess on our hands and both parties to blame, as long as the politicians can divide us against ourselves they will continue on their merry way. We need to elect new people that can and will work for our welfare and step over party lines. Way past time for ALL the old politicians to retire, both sides.

She lost the election, because Trump voters voted for change and hope. Sounds good, and there's been change all right, but a lot of negative change that is difficult to defend. The "fully embedded in the system" was not an outright endorsement, but meant that we would have more of the same, bad as it was, but not the seemingly downhill path we seem to be on currently, with losing our prestige with essentially every other country in the world, except Russia, the loosening of environmental and safety standards that will eventually cost American lives - the list goes on. "More of the same" would have been preferable to what we're getting now. It may feel like a "breath of fresh air" now, but it is rapidly becoming stale. It's not going to get better, because he is an amateur politician, he doesn't know how to pick good advisors and he doesn't trust them, and he doesn't know how to think in depth about anything. His spontaneous outbursts on Twitter prove this. Sure, he is honest about his feelings, but they are not the feelings of someone who knows what he is doing. And his honesty is skin deep. He has lied more than any other President in history, so far. More than 300 times - you can look it up. The lists say what the lie was, when he said it, and what the truth of the matter is, and we're not talking opinion here. Many times he said one thing during his candidacy, and then did something else while in office. Trump voters were conned.

The ACA has problems, for sure, but one of the best things about it was the availability of medical care for pre-existing conditions. The Trumpcare attempts saved money by taking out the money for pre-existing conditions and giving it all to the very rich! Really? The rich don't need any more money, and it has been proven that any positive effects on the economy would be minuscule. Removing the pre-existing part will cause many people to die. This is not an opinion. You can look it up. If it was a serious attempt at repealing the ACA, they would have used the money saved to improve it in the ways it needed improvement. The Republicans were rabid about the repeal - they didn't care one bit about the Americans affected, except themselves and the very rich. The Republicans had at least seven years to come up with a better plan, with no ideas. What's wrong with them? The idea that they could, or would, fix it after repeal goes against reason.

"We need to elect new people that (sic) can and will work for our welfare and step over party lines." True, but, unfortunately, Trump has shown himself to be incapable of either action.

Has anyone here considered what the alternate choice would have done?

Nothing like the current choice. Whatever faults she may or may not have, she's a fully embedded part of the system, and wouldn't have been the loose cannon we now have. She would have been predictable and consistent with her policies. Whatever you think of her, she would've been a professional. Trump is not even a good amateur. Many of us who have zero interest and experience with politics would've done a much better job.
