I hated selling some of my old film cameras (I still have two), but why have them taking up space when someone else could use them? I have my D750 and D5600 for regular use. I also have an IR conversion and a couple of good compacts.

Right now, I'm considering selling some lenses that I seldom use. If things aren't getting used, why hold onto them. Even broken equipment can be sold on eBay.

I like your suggestion to sell old equipment. I have several for various reasons. How do you find out how much to reasonably ask for them?

[quote=jerryc41]I saw this on YouTube last night - free alternatives to Photoshop. I'm not making recommendations - just passing this along. They are listed from "Good" to "Best." Affinity and Pixelmator Pro are not free, but are not expensive, either.

PhotoScape X
Paint.net
Photopea
Adobe PS Express
Affinity $
Pixelmator Pro $
Krita
Gimp

Is that the Best are top to bottom or bottom to top.....meaning Good to Best?
Thanks!!

Gonna use a tripod?

Yes. He plans to get a tripod when we get there to use while we are traveling. He will also carry a small one with him.

Thank you! How many batteries would you suggest he take with him? How long does it take to recharge a battery. (I purchased two chargers and four batteries for my Cannon G5 and was glad I did on my Israel trip)

Thank you all for your great responses and advice. My son is 35. He owns a Nikon D7000, so understands about cameras. His friend has a D900 so he has used it, briefly. I got a Cannon G5 for my trip to Israel two years ago. For him, the zoom is more important than having small sized camera. From your replies, sounds like this will be the camera for him. I think he will wait until summer to get it...just in case...a newer model comes out. Then, he can evaluate if newer features are worth the price or buy this one and save a bit. Again....thank you for taking the time to respond. :)

My son wants to buy a Nikon P-900 for our summer trip to Ireland and Scotland. The big zoom is the thing he likes about it. The question is...does anyone know if there iis a new model in the works. If so, when? Or, if there is another camera you would recommend for this trip. Thanks....

Thank you. We live in Jacksonville, Florida. Unfortunately, we don't have a camera store any more. It is a shame for a city as large as we are. Wolf was the last one and it closed a couple of years ago.

I have seen several of you mention renting camera equipment to try out before purchasing. My son is interested in the Nikon Coolpix P900. He would like to rent one for our trip to the NC mountains in September. Could any of you offer suggestions as to what companies to contact to rent a camera? (Also, welcome comments about this camera...pro and con. We have a Nikon D7000 with 18-200mm lens, currently. Not giving that up) Thank you!!

One technique for removing photos from those old albums is to gently see-saw a piece of dental floss under the pictures. Of course, I am assuming it depends on how long they have been stuck in the album whether this works.

Once you go Mac, you'll never go back! I wanted to throw mine in the trash the first three weeks. Then, the light dawned and it all made sense. Much more sense than 'Windose'. Just wade through the learning curve. There are changes and differences with anything that is new and different. I promise it will be worth your efforts. Utilize the Apple Store and call Apple with your questions, as well, as you tube and google. You will fine very soon. (I am not a computer geek, nor am I am millennial!)

Wish I could say I had never inserted the SD in the DVD slot!! I, finally, stuck a big post-it over the DVD slot as a warning. I know I should be smarter, but, I, finally, learned....I am not!! Have to say, misery loves company. Thanks for making me feel better!!

Just wanted to say, me, too. I, also, have a D7000. Over the years I have taken it in to be professionally cleaned twice because of the exact same spots. I do not change lens very often. But, zoom my 18-200mm lens all the time. I am not a pro so I never have attempted to clean myself. My local Nikon authorized dealer charges $69 for cleaning. Well, worth the price if it keeps me from damanging something trying to do it myself!

Well, the Nooks and Nook by Samsung readers can hold a lot more books, magazines, audio books, music, and games than 8-10 books, unless you are loading text books or technical manuals.

Then, you can archive those that you aren't currently using, but they will remain in your library. Think if a traditional personal library and the size and weight to move it, vs. a 7 oz. reader that could hold that entire library. I don't know about you, but I would rather carry that 7 oz. reader, than haul around an 18 wheeler loaded with my library.

^^The Kindle works the same way. You can load many, many books for current viewing, and then, archive the rest. It will hold thousands of books. I, too, was a book purist until I realized I could stop hauling ten big books around on vacation. I still buy special books that I love for my collection. Sometimes, you just want to hold a book. But, not on vacation, at the doctor's office and on a plane, etc.
