VERY FRUSTRATING!! My question is; I am finding that quit a few LR menus are not the same, even as they say they should be in the manual. LR does not work the same as did on Windows 7. (I am about to go back to windows and throw out this apple).

Am I do something wrong, or do I have a problem?

Thank you for any comments and help.

I'm not a LR user, but I am a MAC user. There are differences between MAC and Windows that take a little time to get used to, don't give up. Many MAC users use Adobe products.

Tim, with sincere respect...can you explain a bit more about the specific nature of the problems you are encountering. We all get frustrated with our computers and the accompanying software from time to time; this group of (mostly) caring, intelligent folks would be glad to help if we can. Are your issues related more to functional differences between the Windows and Apple platforms in general? OR more related to differences between the way Adobe software appears and performs on Windows and Mac. Have you been in touch with Adobe's good customer service folks about your problems?

You do understand that any program you try to use unless it's written for both windows and mac, probably won't work correctly on a mac computer.

Give the Mac a bit more time. Once you get used to it, you'll never give Windows a second glance. If you're brave, learn a bit of Unix and tcsh to operate from the command line - now that's real power for you! I would have thought that LR would appear the same on Windows and Macs (never used LR on Windows so no personal experience there).

There are a lot of Mac people on this list who can help out with all things MacOS related. And if you're near an Apple Store take a few "intro to the Mac" classes. They will help get you up to speed very quickly.

When I first got my Mac I used YouTube to learn how to navigate and use my new computer and software. Just type in Using LR with Mac and then chose from the tutorials

I have an "intro to the Mac " class scheduled for this upcoming Monday. One major difference with LR I ran into today was when I tried to print. The Mac version would not let me configure my printer or load print drivers as I able to do with the Windows version. It did not even present the same screens that match the Lightroom CC/6 manual. This is just the latest issue I have run into.

Thanks again.

I don't blame you - yes things are different. There is a learning curve. I suggest that you try and sell it while it is new, and get an equivalent portable Windows machine - you'll save a considerable amount of money, even after the loss you will take selling the MBP. Then you can get a nice lens, second camera body, take the wife/girlfriend/significant other for a nice weekend getaway, etc. You have discovered that all is not perfect in Appleland.

Or you can be patient and just learn it.

I used windows for many years. After a month on a Mac, I swore I'd never go back to windows. After 5 yrs with a Mac, I feel the same way. Years ago I saw little difference between Lightroom on a Mac and PC.

It can be frustrating learning a new system but you don't have to do it all at once, with bootcamp you can switch between Windows and OSX so you don't have to go in at the deep end and if you feel you are drowning switch to Windows and use that if you haven't the time to learn the differences now. Lightroom should activate on both the windows side and the mac side.

Your new to town, so there is a lot of unknown out there, but you will find that you adjust and acclimatize sooner rather than later and trust me you will find fault with windows when you find better ways of doing things on the mac.

I am a former long time Windows user who switched to Macs several years ago even though I used a Windows PC at work. Once I became comfortable with the Mac I will never go back. Google is a good place to search for answers to questions. The Mac print Window can be frustrating though and takes a little bit of time to master. Since you a new Mac you are eligible to purchase one year of phone support. I have found those folks to be very amazing. Last year I purchased a new IMac and migrated every thing from my 7 year old IMac to it. I had some issues and took advantage of their support. The technician resolved the issues and helped me tune up the new machine and two other older Macs we have at home. Hang in there and take advantage of the Mac classes as well as the Genius Bar appointments at your local Apple Store. I think you will find it to be well worth it. If you would like, send me a PM with a problem and I will try to help you resolve the problem. I am not an expert but have managed to get LR and my Macs to do what I want.
Good luck,
Jan

Once you go Mac, you'll never go back! I wanted to throw mine in the trash the first three weeks. Then, the light dawned and it all made sense. Much more sense than 'Windose'. Just wade through the learning curve. There are changes and differences with anything that is new and different. I promise it will be worth your efforts. Utilize the Apple Store and call Apple with your questions, as well, as you tube and google. You will fine very soon. (I am not a computer geek, nor am I am millennial!)

I think LR on a Mac works too much like a PC app. Example: Close the LR window and the program quits. I do get the dialog about making a catalog backup, but there's no way to cancel the quitting process. With "standard" Mac apps, closing all windows does not quit the application.
I don't understand why Adobe LR doesn't have a "Cancel" feature in the catalog backup dialog box.

Tim - I will buy your freaking Apple computer (sight unseen), but you pay for shipping and insurance. No sense you remaining frustrated.
