Exactly! A waist of money buying old versions!

Don't you mean a "chest" of money buying old versions?

Ever since then I've been working to clean up the dust spots. (That's why I don't like scanning!)

Do you know how to use the Dust & Scratches filter in Photoshop? With very little practice, you can quickly fix large areas of dust spots and film scratches and you will not get the "blotchiness" from cloning or
individual healing brushing.

Photoshop Hall of Fame member Eddie Tapp (one of the most knowledgeable and helpful people I have every studied with) also has a technique that he invented before the newer tools of Photoshop were even invented and his technique works beautifully on dust. I have a "cheat sheet" I made for a class I taught about removing dust & scratches if you are interested, but try the Filters>Noise>Dust &Scratches technique in Photoshop first.

There are several newer YouTube tutorials about removing dust & scratches. Google can be your friend here.

I hope not, but you are not protected from any disaster that might occur in your home, because
you have "all your eggs in two baskets, side by side".

Your son will not be able to recover data from fire, theft, flood, broken water pipe, natural disaster...

Maybe you will need a "cloud" backup as well.

I didn't want to hijack a different thread, so I started this new one:

I have shot all of my images in RAW for many years as a pro.

I convert the files to DNG upon download. DNG file are "slightly" smaller than NEF.
However, I have found that is not necessarily true for Canon files.
I am seeing posts telling others to use the proprietary/native RAW setting over using DNG.

After years of use I don't know of any disadvantages of DNG, but I like the advantage of the sidecar (.xmp)
being incorporated inside the DNG format so that it isn't lost or disassociated.
Other than that, I don't know of the advantages.

What are the explicit advantages of using the proprietary RAW vs DNG? CHG_Canon has mentioned this before.

Let's all keep it civil.

Have any of you used an Asus monitor, 24" or 27"? How good would you say it is?

I am a semi-retired pro so I print a lot through my pro lab. I do my own retouching and color correction and the lab prints always match my screen images. I have two 24" ASUS monitors. They calibrate easily (Datacolor). You can spend, more but I am happy with my ASUS monitors.

That same course would benefit a large number of people on this website.
When I read some of the questions & replies here, my eyes roll involuntarily, due to the terrible spelling and grammar.

Then state it is a created fictional fabrication like an AI "Photo" is not taken but fabricated.

I would like to ask Architect1776 if the avatar image you use in your posts was an "accurate depiction" of a scene the artist saw, without any artistic license, or was it fabricated? Did the
artist lie and lead us to believe that he was there when the scene was happening?

In the original painting (yours is a cropped version), the battle line is a mere "few feet away". Were the fife and drums really that close to the front line? Also, that cloud in
the background seems to be too perfectly placed and too dramatic to be believable.

Oh wait... the painting is a fake. It wasn't painted until the late 19th century. All this time I was under the impression that the painter, Archibald Willard, was standing
on the front lines painting. He really should have explained that the painting was only his "fictional fabrication", like an AI "Photo".

Based on the question that you ask, along with the other group posing questions you have asked in the past, I agree with BillNikon.

A varsity sport photograph in high school should be a serious undertaking and I don't believe you are ready for the job yet. This is not a "put down" on you. Every photographer was a beginner once.

I have looked at Luminar Neo and ON1.
Does anyone had experience with either software?

Did you do a search for either one of these on Ugly Hedgehog?
There is limited discussion for Luminar Neo and lots of discussion for ON1.

Camera controls (including shutter release) tend to freeze when batter charge goes below 30%. Anyone out there encounter a similar issue?

I have a Nikon D800 and I have never experienced this, or any, problems. I have genuine Nikon batteries.

(Edited to add:)
I have had several Nikon digital cameras (D1X, D200, D70, D700)and have never had any problems (including batteries) with any of them.

I just use the Layers Panel to create adjustment layers. (found under the Windows menu)

That is why people tell you that there are many ways to do the same thing in Photoshop.

If you navigate to "Keyboard Shortcuts" (under the "Edit" tab in windows - Dont know about location in Apple products), you can create a new layer for "Ctrl+M", every time you hit the Ctrl+M shortcut.
You can also create a new layer shortcut for the shortcut "Ctrl+L"
Then this is never a problem again.

Back in 2006 or thereabouts I bought Lumapix Fotofusion. I used it for a number of years and then moved on to other projects. I used it primarily to create composites for sororities and fraternities, (I'm in a University town). I now have a need for it again and I managed to find the program on one of my archived disk drives. To the best of my knowledge I have the last incarnation of the stand alone version, (Version 5). The program is now a subscription and I have no desire to upgrade as I only need to use it once. One reason for using the program is that it easily will create a photo-composite for headshots. I have about 200 heads that I have to place. I did the photography with my camera tethered to my computer using Lightroom. Lightroom allows me to rename the camera file to the students name on the fly, so for example IMG-202.jpg is renamed to Jones, J.jpg in the exif file. This enables me to use a feature in FOTOFUSION that allows me to import that file data without the .jpg extension and put it into a text box under the corresponding photo. This saves a huge amount of time as I do not have to manually type in each name under the picture. I know how to access this feature and do this one image at a time but I do not remember the procedure for doing it on multiple images at a time. I know how to create text boxes under each image by selecting all of the images and pushing the text box button, but the created text box appears with the hint, "double click this text to replace it". If I do not clear the text box of the "hint" I get, "double click this text to replace it Jones, J". I have tried selecting all of the text boxes and doing a global delete so all that remains is an empty text box but have not been able to get it to work. Once the text box is clear all one has to do is select auto fill and the exif data is automatically placed in the proper box. If anyone can tell me how to do this please respond. Your help will save me a lot of time and typing.
Thanks in advance
Back in 2006 or thereabouts I bought Lumapix Fotof... (show quote)

I too loved and used Lumapix Fotofusion and I had the exact same software version as you. It was wonderful for creating wedding albums and class composites. UNFORTUNATELY, the software has been abandoned. Lumapix sent out a notice when they did this along with a procedure that was supposed to enable users like us to continue to use the abandoned software. I followed their instructions and they simply did not work as stated. The Fotofusion Facebook page is a ghost town. I, personally, am upset that the company took away this very useful software with no recourse but to pay the now exorbitant leasing fees. If you find a way to make Lumapix Fotofusion to work, I would love to hear from you. This software was way ahead of its time.

I still create smaller composites using previous composites .psd's as a template. I rename the files (Last, First) and let Ps alphabetize the files and then I drag the sized images into the old composite. My composites are very typically 35-45 images, so I am able to adjust the image frames for changes in my numbers. I have not done composites with 200 heads, but describing how to do it is harder than actually doing it.

You say "It is so easy to extract the jpg preview from the raw file.... How? I switched from raw to jpg because I like the results my Sony RX10M4 was producing in jpg better than anything I could achieve starting from raw. Is there a way I can extract the Sony preview from raw? That way I would have the raw file as insurance. (I know I could shoot raw+jpg, but I don't want to do that.)

I don't use Sony, but do you have a "Sony" raw editor. I would believe that it would recognize what your Sony did to make the jpg.

If not, what raw editor are you using?

I am assuming you are adjusting for brightness, black point and white point but...

In the raw mode of the image:
Are you adjusting the white balance, color balance and saturation?
Are you creating a curves adjustment layer to make your image "pop"?
Are you sharpening the raw image?
Are you adjusting certain areas for spot dodging and burning?

You can do all of these items using ACR or Lightroom, or any quality raw editor.
