MWAC, Thanks for challenging us! I do have questions though. Maybe a little of my photo history will explain:

I am an 83 year old retired minister (definately older than dirt) that started with a Nikormat FTn and used Aperture, and Shutter settings a lot. Went through many years totally out of photography, except for family occasions. Then a year ago I got a Canon G12 but have never mastered it. Then a month ago I got a Lumix DMC ZS5 and so far have only taken pictures the "lazy" way..."Scene" (Portrait and landscape, etc.).

Now, my two questions to you:
a. This little Lumis will function well on A or S settings,
but if set on A for instance, it doesn't tell what shutter speed it chooses, I don't know where to find the info. hence I won't have that to post. Can I post without complete info.?
b. My other question is about what camera I should buy to have more control. I don't want to lug most DSLRs, but after reading a blue million reviews don't have a real prospect in mind, except maybe a Fuji X10. Just reading doesn't tell me whether I could master it or not. Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

The problem I see with pricing is that if an expensive (whatever that means) photo doesn't sell, you will wonder if the price or the image kept buyers away. On the other hand, if you sell photos at a very low price, you wonder if they are bying just because it is so cheap, or maybe they just like the frame.

Another reason why I don't sell my "art."

I see what your saying, but to enter the contest the pics must be for sell. The gallery makes money off any sells.

Don't cheepin yourself with your art. Yes you want them to sell but you don't want to give them away either. I sell my art for a living and if I only made $15 an image I would have to sell way too many images to stay alive.
A normal price for selling your art (there really is no normal) is to remember all you have put into it. For example If I sell an 11x14 no frame or matt I may have several prices. It depends on the peice itself however normally I sell an 11x14 for $275. I take into consideration the cost for the camera, learning, printing, driving to the location to shoot the image, insurance for my camera etc, etc. This may not help too much but you would be better off to say something like "normally" my 11x14 sells for $200 but if they sell at the show they are only $149. Use your own prices. That makes you look like you are giving them a good deal (which you are) and you still get paid for your work.
Hope that helps in some way.

Thanks Dheaton....I like what you said. While I didn't take all that in to consideration...I did take into account several factors. I will refer back to this for the future. These are matted and framed, however I am considering doing something in the future where I would only sell matted prints.

I have entered 3 photos in a juried art exhibit. Thank all of you who helped me decide which ones to enter. I now have to put a price on them for the possiblity of selling them during the festival weekend. They must have a price and I have no idea how to price them. The print and framing for each were about $55.00. One of the the prints is 11x14 and in a custom frame. The other 2 are 11x14 and framed in a 12x16 frame with mats. Also the art center will take 30% of the sale. What do yall think would be a fair price?

I am not a big fan of HDR either, but it works here. The black and white seems too dark in the shadows.

Here are a few of mine from today. A garden class I was taken ended today and we had a Nature Hike...this tree is something that our host planted that his son sent him from NC. I think he said it was a Dove Tree. The last picture was from yesterday, but still wanted to post it.

Caught this yesterday. Not the best picture, was just suprised that I could see anything but the tail sticking out of the water.

If you have access to one, and it will work on your camera, you might try again with a polarizing filter in front of your lens. You'd be amazed at how much surface glare that filter will reduce or eliminate.

If he's on a nest, Mr. Bass may be around for awhile, giving you
the opportunity for another crack at him.

Thanks for sharing!

I will have to see about getting one. The pond is in our back yard so the opportunity will be there for many more. Thanks for the suggestion. I can't believe I got as much as I did. I was really thought I would only get his tail.
