Pileated Woodpecker looking for food

I was fortunate to come across this male Pileated Woodpecker this morning. Watched him begin a new hole searching for food, an interesting process to watch. These woodpeckers are the size of crows.

Really nice catch.
We have them around here and hear them a bit but hard to spot.

Im offically jealous We have them around my neck of the woods and I have seen them many times but this is a beautiful picture of one. When I grow up I want to be as good as you are. :thumbup:

Im offically jealous We have them around my neck of the woods and I have seen them many times but this is a beautiful picture of one. When I grow up I want to be as good as you are. :thumbup:

Nice shot! Love the lighting and detail. I've got a number of red-bellied woodpeckers but haven't seen a pileated this year.
