Here in Hawaii use of "uncle" and "auntie" is also common as a term of respect by younger people for older people, esp. among Pacific Islanders and those of Japanese descent. There doesn't need to be a familial relationship. I'm wondering if it's the same in the foreign films where you encounter the terms.

Our model of policing requires that every policeman be available to deal with all kinds of things that shouldn't require force but typical police training is how to subdue a resistant suspect. This requires an often violent mindset where a better mind set would be how to defuse a situation. Certainly shooting "suspects" in the back or applying choke holds rather than letting a suspect go to be picked up at a later time is preferable to murder.

It would take an abnormal collection of individuals with extraordinary education to be able to calmly assess a situation and distinguish true need for force situations from those simply requiring intervention by people trained to deal with the specific problem.

Take homeless populations as an example. Who do we look to to deal with homeless encampments? Police who come in with orders to "clear them out" so they take it as their mission to use whatever force is necessary regardless of the circumstances giving rise to the homeless condition. Some in the homeless population have mental illness problems but aren't inherently violent. Why not deal with their problems with better mental health facilities. No funding.

Some are there for mutual protection and support because of unfortunate circumstances like job loss in a pandemic. Should they be confronted by gun toting police who have no training or way to deal with the problem other than use of force.

At the very least we should evolve police forces into sets of specialists in the kinds of problems not requiring force or threat of lethal violence on every occasion. It's unrealistic to expect gun toting police trained mostly in use of violence to which they are attracted to begin with to deal with the real problems of society. When all you've got is a hammer everything looks like a nail to be beat on.

Finally, if you take guns from most police in most situations they are left with their own native wits and caution instead of regarding every situation as a potential challenge to their authority. We really, really do need to rethink what we want policing to be like rather than stuck in a "police must do it all" mentality left over from the days of Marshall Wyatt Earp.

Here in Hawaii we have these very big spiders locally called "cane spiders" because they were brought from somewhere else by cane growers to control pestiferous insects. The Hawaiians regarded them as good luck if they were in the house and never killed them although they are easy to kill because they are relatively slow moving. At my web site www.CaptainBobPhotos.com you can find some images I took of a small one catching and eating a moth and cokroach. It took the spider on the order of 5 minutes each to completely disolve the roach and moth.

Hawaii. We have no large predators although we do have turkeys... Perhaps in a few million years though and social isolation they might evolve into something like the posted image.

It looks like eBay is following the business model of some insurance companies...deny, deny, deny. My wife had a similar problem after canceling an order through eBay within the allotted 24 hours. She repeatedly documented her emails canceling and asking for verification but no response except message saying the product was being shipped in the not distant future. eBay refused to credit her account so she turned it over to the credit card company. Turned out it was one of those Chinese company scams where they send a cheap useless item in place of the thing ordered so they can claim they shipped the ordered item. She refused delivery of the cheap useless item (a USB cord) and still eBay insisted they would not credit her account. Meanwhile the Bank Card company did investigate, credited her account, and so advised eBay. She has since cancelled her eBay account.

Probably the best lens body combo out there for handheld BIFs and wildlife. I've had mine since earliest release. Only negative is that it's a little slower (f5.6) than say a much more expensive but faster 500 mm prime from Nikon (due to need to use only central part of the pF lens) but that's never been a problem for me and I've shot lots of birds handheld or with only a monopod. I could carry it all day in the field with no fatigue. Of course, the D500 with its speed and quality and crop frame makes it superlative for birds and wildlife.

See. The problem with the story is it lacks credibility. It would be someone from Dept. of Labor, not the IRS. Otherwise, it sounds about right.

Oh, the conspiracy is so vast it includes the entire medical system the Deep State including the CDC, the Illuminati, the funeral industry and its oligarchs, the NRA and weapons industry (which won't produce enough weapons of war for each True American because then prices would drop too much), the poultry industry (necessary to produce the eggs to produce vaccines) AND OF COURSE THE FAKE NEWS INDUSTRY. The only source of TRUE OPINION is STATE TV. RISE UP AMERICANS! YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT YOUR LIVES dropping like flies in the streets in the 2nd wave.

There are 2 different tools for removing unwanted objects in Photo Raw: Perfect Erasure and Spot Removal. I have found that they work a little differently but depend on proximity of like pixels. If what you are trying to remove is well separated from surrounding pixels in terms of color (i.e. high contrast of the target object) it's easier for the software to distinguish what to "erase", i.e. which surrounding pixels to use to replace the erased object pixels with. With a bit of experimentation and patience one can get to the point of understanding how difficult it would be to erase unwanted objects. Also, if the background of the unwanted object is a little amorphous (say like animal fur or bird feathers) the pixel replacement process isn't as obvious.

So here's the problem with the whole proposal:
1: QEII isn't going to live forever. She will in all likelihood be replaced by Prince Charles, even older than our current 2 candidates for president.
2: Boris Johnson appointing a governor for the north american colonies is like having Trump appoint someone who knows what they're doing to anything. Exchanging one kakistocracy for another helps neither and just confuses the issue.
3. The world stopped laughing at British pretensions once it divested itself of colonies but the world is really starting to laugh and or pity the U.S.A. now. Would the Brits really want to resume their old place as the principal target of satire and pity in the world? I think not. After all, they became laughing stocks of just Europe alone trying to figure out how to Brexit and they're still paying a high price for that.
4. Actually British traffic circles are generally much better designed than the little accident generators one finds in a few places in the U.S. but our fossil fuel industry and autobody repair industries would never allow us to do anything to improve either fuel mileage or lower accident rates.
5. Metrification would place the U.S. on the road to new world dominance and the British and Vladimir Putin would never allow that so forgetaboutit.

My 3 Nikon bodies all use the same battery. About 2 years ago Nikon announced a trade in program for their old EL15's to an upgraded EL15 because the original EL15's ran out of power much faster in one of the bodies, I'm thinking maybe the D810. Even the old EL15's outlasted 3rd party batteries I had tried so I stopped trying to find cheap solutions and just went with Nikon batteries. This has been the same story for other common 3rd party cheaper solutions I've tried such as 3rd party lenses. In the end I've not been satisfied with anything less than straight Nikon gear. It's like so many things in life, cheaper costs more in the long run.

I've got a RhinoBlind brand about the poster's stated size, new, never used except initial testing. Cost me about $80-$90 delivered here in Hawaii. Now it's unlikely I'll ever use it. One problem has been that it's supposed to be able to fold up small enough to fit into a backpack that comes with it but except for the first time I've never been able to get it folded again so it's kind of cumbersome to take somewhere. However, the birds basically ignored it or me in it so I'm sure it would work well in the field. After all, the birds basically ignore us when we're in vehicles as do most animals.

Thanks to you all for quick replies. I've set up WeTransfer account and it looks good. I do see that hackers have used simulations of it's GUI (and probably DropBox, etc. as well) for phishing expeditions to get the unwary to click on bogus download links whence come malware. Anyone had that problem?

We all use various web sites and email for sharing photos but such photos are usually (always?) JPEGs or TIFFs as required by the sharing sites and email limitations on file size. Does anyone use anything besides DropBox for transmitting RAW files? I need to get a bunch of RAW images from a family member so I can process them in Photo Raw before returning as JPEGS.
