I have found that the Fenix ML30 headlamp is a much better light. It has a red map reading light, 4 levels of output up to 200 lumens and great battery life. The user interface is also much better on the Fenix light. I have the Black Diamond and Petzl light and have compared them. The Fenix is available on Amazon and REI will save you 10 to 15 bucks.
After cleaning up the mess and if the camera works, it may be worth giving rechargeable NiMH batteries a try. They have less voltage (1.25 versus 1.5 volts), so they may not work. If they do they are much less likely to leak.
This continuous bad mouthing of Apple bores me. They make great products at reasonable prices. They do not punish their users, and no they could not cut their prices in half and make billions.
