The people that call in for a 'what if' situation should make sure it really could be a danger. We don't have enough police as it is without answering the silly 'what if' calls.

Can't see how a folded tripod could be seen as a rifle, but certain mono-types certainly could be.

I've had that happen to me before, so I changed the faucet handle with one that you can take off easily, then keep it in the house/garage, etc. so I can put it back on when I need it.

Thought you might like to see another "first car." Mine was. and is, a Murray fire truck built the year I was born that my mom bought used for my 4th b'day. I restored it myself years ago after my dog used one of the ladders as his bone. I posed our now 28 yr-old granddaughter in it as a model for a comparing photo and our oldest daughter sent me the pic of what was probably the model for the Murray fire truck. Today it now sits high on my office cabinet with other Murray paraphernalia

Loved the one with the would-be "mechanic" working on his Murray peddle car. I still have mine, except it being a fire truck complete with ladders. My dog chewed up one of the ladders, so I had to make another one. My mom bought it for my 4th b'day in 1945 and I had to improvise new rubber tires out of hard rubber hose. My eldest granddaughter was the last to be photographed in it, after me, and is now on display in my office.

I do understand. We do what we must to satisfy our wives, eh?. If you do find a more satisfying display that meets her critique, please let me know. (And good luck!)

The gun cabinet was used back in the day when one might display them, but not in today's world, so that's when the idea came to convert it as this. I added a light inside so friends 'n kin who were interested could better view them. I don't bother to lock it so to hopefully deter "anybody" from breaking the glass.

I'm one of those who just can't stand getting rid of history, especially mine, so this is how old cameras are displayed in my home. First is the Anthony and Scovill 11 x 14 studio camera being used as a lamp table in the den. It's the only way I could think of keeping it from rotting in my garage. Second is my gun cabinet I converted to display others I've collected or owned. Third is on the wall over my desk where I keep every "modern" camera I've ever owned and used. In a few various corners of my home are a few old Kodaks like the one on the studio camera that are mounted on wooden tripods of yore. I'd like to see other ways hedgehogs display theirs if indeed they do.

I had to clean out a small newspaper office about a year ago. There was a Copy Camera there as well as the film for it. I have stored this film and camera for all this time trying to find a home for it. If anyone is interested in any of it please let me know. Thank You

Several years ago, my daughter, living in Idaho, attended an auction just for fun, but the last item to bid on was an old 8x10 studio camera. When my wife and I took a trip to Glacier NP, she met us there, bringing that camera, knowing I was a photographer, so I brought it home not knowing what I was going to do with it other than admiring it It sat in our garage for a few weeks until I came up with the idea of making it a piece of furniture. We had a glass plate made and set it atop of it, adding some photographic memorabilia to lay atop this relic of the past. It's an Anthony & Scovil work of art, sitting in a prominent area of our den and a very unusual conversation piece.

We drove down the Shafer Trail Road to the White Rim Road which I had been wanting to do for years, but weather or something or other always stopped me.

If you are intending to take the White Rim Road, you must get a free permit at the visitor's center and they will ask if you have a high clearance 4wd. If you are going to take the Potash Road to Moab the permit is not required and I don't think the high clearance is either.

My wife and I drove the Shafer Trail road first in '94 starting from Moab via the Potash Trail in a rented 4WD Ford Explorer to Island in the Sky and repeated in '98 with brother-in-law & wife. No car traffic but met a few bicycles! One of the best rides we've ever had in driving the (mostly) Southwest roads with them since '85. I later put those Canoyonland photos on video, dubbing the theme music of Jurassic Park.

This may be the most replied to post ever! Near 80 myself, I'm enjoying all these replies immensely and feel the need to add my 2 cents worth by saying I used to ride my bike with a neighborhood friend several miles thru the city from home to the garbage dump behind the airport with our .22 rifles across our handlebars to shoot Jackrabbits and bring them home in our baskets to give to a mechanic at our local Conoco station for his dinner. My mom had a saving trait that I inherited and still have a slew of childhood toys, i.e. Captain Midnight secret decoder whistle, Murray fire truck peddle car, cap guns, toy soldiers, etc. Memories all.

Dirty Harry's pics of ledge fungus on the tree reminded me of a photo I took of one when in Olympus N.P. a few years ago. This one looked eerie enough to play with with a bit of "editing".

will be visiting sister in Colorado Springs, CO end of September into October. Looking for photo ops.

If you don't visit/tour The Broadmoor Hotel while there, you're missing the best of downtown CS.

At my age, a reticulating viewfinder is a huge advantage for looking up in hard-to-look-up places.

The wife and I will be at Canyon de Chelly, Arizona in January. Not great timing, but it's what we have. I, like you, am there to take photographs. Pictures from the rim will undoubtedly be great, but I am asking you about the expedition down into the canyon at that time of the year. There is an all day excursion leaving from Thunderbird Lodge in some sort of an open vehicle. I've tentatively nixed that because I don't think my wife should have to suffer just for my photophobia. How about the half day (afternoon) excursion (also in an open vehicle)? In your opinion is that "survivable" at that time of the year?
The wife and I will be at Canyon de Chelly, Arizon... (show quote)

My wife and I have been there twice in late fall. The first time we just drove the uninteresting rim, so the second time we rented a 4WD (for another location) and hired a guide who lived there. Much better photo ops! If it's real cold, wear appropriate clothing.
