We drove down the Shafer Trail Road to the White Rim Road which I had been wanting to do for years, but weather or something or other always stopped me.

If you are intending to take the White Rim Road, you must get a free permit at the visitor's center and they will ask if you have a high clearance 4wd. If you are going to take the Potash Road to Moab the permit is not required and I don't think the high clearance 4wd is either.

That's it down there.

It's still down there.

Awesome pictures. Traffic jam, it must have been rush hour.

Nice shots, curiosity, what is considered high clearance?

I did the White Rim Road (I think they called it Trail back then) years ago. Parts of the surface were rougher than they appear in you photos, at least as I recall. Thanks for posting these photos, they sure brought back nice memories.

I believe that the National Park Service thinks that something more than a Subaru Outback such as most Jeeps, 4wd pickups, and 4wd SUVs. I drive a Z71 Tahoe. When I was at Guadaloupe National Park the ranger actually came out to see what I was driving.

I've done the white rim trail twice on mountain bike, with friends and a support vehicle. Four day trips both times.

Great experience, but that was many years ago.

Thank you, Wanderer2. I only drove the White Rim Road to Musselman Bridge. I could have driven the whole bit that I drove with a car.
