I bought my first camera, a Nikon F with a FTN meter and lots of lenses back about 1966 ish and still have it. I was trying to figure out how many hundreds of rolls of film I have used without a single camera issue.
The camera traveled with me to college, law school, honeymoon, Europe and beyond over many a year. I hated to put her on the shelf when film was getting difficult to obtain. I then bought and now use a Nikon D80 which again is flawless. I have no need to upgrade this camera. It suits my current needs just fine

Just recently retired also. Two bits of advice
One: cards fun comments should be at the top of the list. Learn to drive first then by the Muscle car
Second. Between your wife, kids and grandkids, working around the house u won't have much time got yourself LOL

Was there this past April but on another line
U will love it
I took my Nikon with only the 18-200 and my Nikon strobe for indoor shots ( lots of churches, etc)
As each day went into the next the camera got heavier and heavier. I would suggest taking your 18-270 as mine fit the bill. Also do not forget to take your battery charger and extra card as u will need it
Have a great time

Had the same problem and even though I have pockets lost a many of lens caps. Found a really ingenious item at the local camera shop (now out of business). It is a lanyard that goes around the lens barrel with a heavy duty string that attaches to the outside of the lens cap with glue. lens cap comes off, dangles out of way. Haven't lost a cap since.

I read this thread with great interest as I too have this chore in front of me. The question that I have not seen asked nor answered is how long, on an average, does it take to scan in one slide. The decision I must make is it worth the time as well as the cost to send them all out for a outside source to do. Where I am about to retire I think I have better use of my time

thank you for your response. there is no lock as I have the older model. I put a wrist bank on as suggested by other members of the site and it works fine other than when zooming out it takes a little more effort.
there are no cracks on the lens hood and it does click in place but for some weird reason it sometimes gets loose and falls off. thought someone may have a solution for it

just put one on and it works !
of course for every action there is a reaction.. now when trying to use the lens by extending it it is not so fluid.. there is always a trade off
thanks you for the help. I will leave it on and see if I can deal with it

thanks PCity for the quick reply
what part of the lens housing would it go. I tried a wrist bank on different parts of the lens but to no avail.
perhaps I am not putting it to where it should be

I have been using my 18-200 for awhile and there are two issues that I have.
a) there is o lock preventing the lens from extending when the camera is on my shoulder and the lens pointed down.. any one have a solution ?
b) my lens hood clicks in but at times it somehow loosens up and falls off. any suggestions ?/

if you are going in the summer time then your "mission, should you decide to accept" is to determine who sells the best lobster salad rolls. My favorite is the deck on top of the sea shanty at the end of main street in Edgartown. Let us know your "final answer"
also a must is Morning Glory Farm in Edgartown on the West Tisbury Road. the best muffins and pies you will ever have but you must be there early to get one as they sell out quickly. all the other posts cover the topic quick nicely. HAVE A BLAST YOU WILL OVE IT

I would not ship it out of the country until at least two weeks after u deposit the check. Use pay pal. In all candor from friends of mind. I wouldn't sell it to anyone outside of the USA.
Just my opinion (:-
