I have been using my 18-200 for awhile and there are two issues that I have.
a) there is o lock preventing the lens from extending when the camera is on my shoulder and the lens pointed down.. any one have a solution ?
b) my lens hood clicks in but at times it somehow loosens up and falls off. any suggestions ?/
thanks fellow hogs

I have the same lens. The newer models have a "lock" for the lens when set at 18mm. If yours is the older model (without the lock) try a wrist band around the lens housing. See Jerry's post today on what to carry in your bag.

As far as the lens hood, I have experienced the same thing. Don't have an answer.

thanks PCity for the quick reply
what part of the lens housing would it go. I tried a wrist bank on different parts of the lens but to no avail.
perhaps I am not putting it to where it should be

Check out the link. Have never used the band, so don't have a good answer.

just put one on and it works !
of course for every action there is a reaction.. now when trying to use the lens by extending it it is not so fluid.. there is always a trade off
thanks you for the help. I will leave it on and see if I can deal with it

There were two models of this lens made by Nikon. The original model did not have a lens lock on it. The newest model has the lens lock that holds it in place at 18mm. There are some after market bands you can purchase to hold the lens in place, preventing the creep. The lens hood, if aligned properly when attached, should lock into place. Check to see if there are any fine cracks in the hood, which may be the cause for it coming loose. I cannot think of any other issues with the hood once it is "clicked" in place.

Get one of those plastic wrist bands and put it around the barrel of the lens body. That's what I did with mine and it works like a charm.

thank you for your response. there is no lock as I have the older model. I put a wrist bank on as suggested by other members of the site and it works fine other than when zooming out it takes a little more effort.
there are no cracks on the lens hood and it does click in place but for some weird reason it sometimes gets loose and falls off. thought someone may have a solution for it

At first mine sometimes fell off, but I discovered that if I have it lined up and it clicks in place it doesn't fall off.

Here's a link to give you an idea. Almost anything similar will work.
