Actually, Ted Williams was hitting .39955 next to the last day with a doubleheader scheduled for the final day. Here is a good article covering the event.

https://sabr.org/journal/article/the-day-ted-williams-became-the-last-400-hitter-in-baseball/

There was no one like Ted Williams. His career was interrupted twice by World War II and the Korean War, flying combat missions in both wars. I would drive from PA to Baltimore every time Boston was in town. I sat in the bleachers for .75 cents. Those were memorable times.

Another thing that lengthens games is the relief pitchers. 50+ years ago, starting pitchers went the whole game. Jim Palmer had 8 20 game seasons averaging around 300 innings per year. Now they pamper most of the pitchers. I preferred the old days.

For well over 100 years the former rules worked effectively. Remember when MLB played double-headers. I go to a baseball game to enjoy the "game". Baseball used to be an afternoon of enjoyment. People spend 1-2 hours getting to the ballpark and back and then complain about a 3 hour game. I played a lot of baseball and IMHO these changes are unwarranted. Players haven't changed their playing behaviors over time. There are other factors contributing to the length of a game. Challenges, play reviews, etc. They'll soon consider changing a 9 inning game to 8 or 7 innings. If the games too long, leave early ........... Enjoy life, it's too short !

Here's a few other tidbits .....

Buck Night at the Drive-in. Whole car load could get in for $1.00.

Watching 8mm Silent Black & White Cowboy Movies every Friday afternoon in a grade school one-room schoolhouse.

Had NO TV !!!!

Went to Stock Car races where all the cars were 1930's bodies. Watched Demolition Derbys and Powder Puff Derby's.

Going to the General Store and have your groceries wrapped in string. Hershey candy was sold by the weight in square pieces.

I owned a bright red 1958 Chevrolet Impala. Best looking car I ever owned.

The best hitter in baseball, Ted Williams, made the top salary at $125,000. Management wanted to sign him for one more year at $125,000. He said, NO, I'll play my final year for $90,000 because he felt he didn't deserve it.. Can you imagine any player today doing that ?

My favorite Radio Show and comic book, as a kid, was Straight Arrow.

Jukebox was 5 cents.

A Quarter lasted me all night at a Sunday School picnic.

Our first baseball was a ball of string wrapped tight and covered with tar tape.

Bases were trees .....

A quality wooden baseball bat was $3.00.

Baseball cards were sold in penny packs with a piece of bubble gum. That's when it was fun for a KID. They ruined the joy for kids at today's prices.

I could go on and on .......

For years, we traveled to Maine, in late September, primarily to get the vivid colors of Fall, as well as to avoid the traffic that you experience in Summer (Kids are back in school). Our primary focal point was always Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor has been covered quite well but I might mention one experience that's worthwhile which is Cadillac Mountain, as the sun comes up. Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, at 1,530 feet (466 meters), is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard and the first place to view sunrise in the United States from October 7 through March 6. Sometimes weather conditions interfere with this beautiful experience but the morning we got there, before sunrise, it was perfect. What a sight !!!

Depending on your time schedule, and your interest in coastline, we also continued on to New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and lastly, the John Cabot Trail around Cape Breton Island. The John Cabot Trail is 185 miles. Of course, you need proof of U.S. citizenship to enter Canada.

You mentioned that you are really not interested in woodlands but we traveled a number of years through Baxter State Park, just northwest of Bangor. It's rather desolate and, I assume mostly dirt road. But, I was interested in seeing Moose. I was never disappointed. Mt. Katahdin is also a beautiful site and is the highest point in Maine. For a photographer nothing gives you more vivid color than the leaves in Fall, the bright blue sky and the water rapids on the Allagash River.

Have a great trip and best wishes for beautiful weather.

I've had the same problem about one month ago. They want you to take a photo of the front and back of your driver's license and a photo of yourself. I got through to taking a photo of myself and the front of my driver's license. I apparently failed on 3 attempts to photograph the back. So, that was the end. A week later I did receive a letter from Synchrony Bank with instructions to call them. I didn't. The irony of this is that I already have a credit card relationship with Synchrony. I don't dance through hoops for any credit card. B&H's loss. There are other vendors out there that offer incentives.

Back in 1959, Harvey Haddix pitched 12 innings of perfect baseball but lost his no-hitter, and game, in the 13th inning. From 1959 to 1991, he was recognized as having pitched a no-hitter. However, in 1991, the definition of a no-hitter was changed and his name was removed from the list of pitchers that threw a no-hitter. No consideration given to an asterisk as was quickly attached to Roger Maris breaking Babe Ruth's 60 home run record. Harvey Haddix responded to the change by saying, "It's O.K., I know what I did.

I felt very strongly about the "unfairness" of the 1991 action that I wrote a letter to the Baseball Commissioner's office. Surprisingly, I received a response .... explaining their reasoning behind the decision. So, you can pitch a 9 inning no-hitter and get credit for it but you can't get credit for a no-hitter by pitching 12 innings of no hit no run baseball, if you lose it in the 13th inning. But that's life. Someone always comes along and makes a change just to make a change. Why after 32 years did they have to take it away from him. Couldn't they have grandfathered him into the record books.

I'm still upset about it. And, I'm not related to Harvey Haddix.

As a complete ball player, Babe Ruth, as #1 pick, is hard to argue. In addition to his hitting he was also a 2-time 20+ game winner. Ted Williams was always my favorite player. I saw him many times. It was a joy to just watch him take batting practice. Not only is he the last .400 hitter (.406 in 1941) but one record that stands out to me is his lifetime on-base percentage of .482. That shows great respect from his peers plus an unsurpassed eyesight.

Is there a website or forum where one can post a photo to have it critiqued ? A lot of photographers think their photos are good because no one tells them differently. Some people would be better photographers if we didn't sugar coat our opinion and provide a helpful analysis. I've entered a number of photo contests where I thought my entry was better than the winner. Good, better, best is in the eyes of the beholder. If you enjoy what you are doing, it doesn't matter ... and you will get better over time. People who take good photos start with an excellent subject pleasing to the eye.

You have to set the monitor parameters to 250%

It's already set at 250%. That's the recommended percentage.

I recently purchased a new HP laptop with 4K resolution. I just loaded my copy of Photohop Elements (Version 11) which worked fine on my older computers. It is impossible to use on my new computer because the Font size is too small to read. I know I have an older version of PS Elements but has anyone else had experience with a 4K monitor and Photohop Elements. I don't want to spend a $100 on a more current version only to find out I have the same problem. Is this an issue with other photo editing programs ? Anyone considering a computer with 4K should be aware of this potential conflict.

All thoughts and comments appreciated.

I have a Nikon 500 lens that had focusing issues. I tried all of the recommendations to no avail. I eventually sent it into Nikon for repairs. Cost me $600. but cheaper than a new lens. Mine has an auto-focus motor (which was bad). I think yours has a motor, also. My Nikon 500mm was 9 years old.

You might also try OneDrive. That's what I use for the same purpose. I have my larger photo gallery on Pbase.

External hard drives should be the answer. However, I can't say that I have a great deal of confidence with external hard drives. Nothing complicated about them, mostly plug and play, but I have had too many (name brand) hard drives malfunction over time. What good is a warranty if you lost your files ? You had better have another backup of some kind, either a second external hard drive or an online backup service.
