If you grew up on the west side of Michigan (Grand Rapids, Holland, Zeeland) you need Dutch jokes.

These two were waiting in the yard when I got home. :) I know I was tired, but not that tired!! Not real good shots. But it was rainy and I was scared to get out of the truck. :)

Erv, I had this one that hung around my place for quite a while until I sold it. (I made it for a friend of my son's)

This is interesting. The first one lasted 35 years for reasons unknown, while the current one has lasted thus far for 105 years. It has been well maintained for being it's current age.

When the U.S. Coast Guard recommended that it be abandoned in 1970, citizens circulated petitions to rescue it. The Holland Harbor Lighthouse Historical Commission was then organized to preserve and restore this landmark.

Even the birds didn't seem to mind the rain we got today. They were business as usual.

I wonder what kind of tales this lighthouse could tell. Nice photo. Do you know what year it was built?

The original lighthouse, a little square building was built in 1872. The present lighthouse was built in 1907. Rbo36

Beautiful shot of an interesting bird. Isn't it nice to finally get some RAIN? ☺ Rbo36

Thank you. It is fantastic to finally get the rain. It is still raining as I type. It could rain all weekend as far as I am concerned. The crops need this so badly.

I'm afraid it might be a little late for the crops but my yard (can't hardly call it a lawn anymore) is actually starting to look green again.
We live by Middleville, MI and we have been getting rain most of yesterday afternoon through the night and it is still raining at almost 9:30 this morning., a nice gentle rain! Rbo36

Returned to Holland State Park this spring for some Lighthouse shots. Converted to BW (infrared simulation) in Nik's Silver Efex Pro

Probably a good thing, to convert your picture to B&W because the nice red lighthouse has turned PINK. It was last painted in 2009 and usually only gets painted every 10 years but the last coat of paint has turned pink so this week they are repainting it a nice bright red like it should be. This is being done by volunteers. A job that normally cost about $20,000.00.

I think you did a nice job! Looks pretty good to me. You started with a great picture, which I like better. :) The colors are awesome in both. I also am not one to stray very far from the normal. :) Maybe when I get old and all the beautiful things I have taken and will take get boring. I might try a few. :)
Erv

Erv, from what I have seen of your work I doubt it will ever get boring. There are sooo many beautiful things out there to photograph with some being so close you probably step on them and others as big and awesome as mountains that I find it hard to believe you will ever find them boring.
This is not to say it is not fun to try something different. Rbo36

Love to sit in the evenings and watch these beauties. This is at least one adult and the last second brood. Our pair had three broods this year. Bluebird heaven around here!

I have to go back to these pictures before I leave this thread. Send more pictures of your bluebirds. My juvenile help their parents with their next nesting.

Here are two pictures of my bluebirds. The one is nesting just 2 feet from our sliding glass door.

By our dining room door.

The answer to your question is YES! I had to do it (Aperture3) because their was some rubbish that did not fit the photo I was trying to achieve....

Isn't it great when you can remove things (rubish) that would otherwise ruin a beautiful picture! Rbo36

My daughter asked me if I would like to take in the local nature preserve. I went with her and my granddaughter. I always like to take along my camera just in case. I had just gotten a new lens ,Canon 70-200 L, and I shot this picture as I was straggling behind. It reflects the peacefulness of this place. Yes that is a monopod that my granddaughter is holding and yes that is a camera bag my daughter is carrying.

Beautiful picture. I have a question though. It looks like a repeat pattern of some greenery in the lower right corner of the picture. Was something photoshopped out of that area?
