I managed to score a Canon 100 - 400mm zoom off Craig's list. I have a couple uses in mind where weight isn't an issue. But for just carrying it around hunting for birds or something... My arms got tired just testing it out in my backyard, and I'm not too thrilled about the prospect of the lens hanging from the body mount while carrying the camera with a camera body mounted neck strap.

I'm looking for alternate ideas to carry this thing. What are any of you folks using for heavy lenses?

Take a look at this harness. I ride an e bike with this several miles a day with a 28-300 Nikor lens attached. Very comfortable. I have two of these. Great Product, well built.

Like I said, nothing earthshaking there for me.

I COULD NOT AGREE MORE !!!

The type of camera you use, will "NEVER DEFINE YOU AS A PHOTOGRAPHER"! Only Time...Experience... and

Knowledge of the Art, and will do that.

I care not...where this "Mirror Less vs. Mirror Camera" goes. I learn each day. And I hope that this will always be.

I just think that some people "LOVE TO TYPE"...don't you???

That is all I will say about this subject.

Longshadow...I could not agree with you more, and you are 100% right!!!

Thanks,
Boone.

I am a portrait photographer not a bird photographer. That said: What type of bird is this?

I see them at the last hour of the day. There are mostly 5-8 of them in a group. They almost always fly very high up.

Both of these shots were taken last eve. with a 600mm lens @ 1/1600.

One shot is a crop of the other. Very little PP was done to either.

I see these birds a lot, but they are so high up, that for me to make a positive I.D is not good.

So..."Dose anyone here know their I.D???

Thanks,
Boone.

usually my camera is in my left hand as i wander around. sometimes in my back, the i have to stop unpack and take my shot. i have seen some ads for a harness type where it looks like it attaches and stays a bit more static
Any advice out there. headed on a multi city adventure this summer

Have used this harness for 1500 mi. on my e bike, caring a Nikon D750 with a 28-300mm attached to it.

Yes, you can pay more, but I loved this harness so much that I now have two (2) of them. I keep one in my

saddlebags on my bike, and one for just walking around. I highly recommend this for comfort, price, as well built

quality.

Thanks,
Boone.

At 74, I am not willing to subject myself to the stress of learning a new mirrorless camera. My Nikon bodies and lenses will probably outlast me. Since my current gear meets my needs, there is no reason to invest in mirrorless. So your quote Epictetus: " "He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has" works for me as well.

Your Right, and I agree 100 percent!!!

I have followed this lens since it first came out many years ago. So I do know a little about this. But...I can not get a firm answer to my question. (Maybe I asked it wrongly) I really don't "Need" this lens, but at my age of 70, I did order it because "I want It"!!!

That said...here is my question: I have also ordered the "Dock" to customize the lens for "Back Focus" or "Front Focus issues" etc...etc. (IF Needed)
I totally understand these issues, and this lens is "Tunable or Customizable as needed".

I have read (And watched on YouTube) about "HOW FAR THE FOCUS TARGET" should be set from the lens/camera for these tests. Some say that the target should be set at 12 feet for all testing. (ie: Focus issues and custom settings)
And some say that the target should be at 2 times the "Minimum Focus Distance". And...some say to set the target at "40 times the focal length you are working on. (150mm, 200mm, 300mm, 600mm etc...etc) I have done this with with several other lens, but...

"IF YOU HAVE THIS LENS...AND USE IT...WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE CAMERAS SENSOR LINE AND THE TARGET" when making these adjustment.
Is one (1) distance good for all "Focal Points"???

Thank you in advance to all who "Own This Lens"!!!

I hope you understand my question.

Thanks,
Boone.

Do you need snow tires?

No snow tires for me! When I was younger, I could handle the falls now & then. I don't recover like I used too!

Thanks for the look.

Well...I do believe that the Fall Season has ended here in my part of Pa.

However, as long as there is no snow or other slippery conditions, I will keep riding my ebike on the back country

roads with my camera ready. "One never knows what one may see"!!!

Camera: D750
Lens: Nikkor 28-300mm.

Thanks,
Boone.

At the risk of reigniting the art versus photography, PP versus SOOC, artistic vision versus reality, etc. etc. discussions, I wanted this image to reflect the principles of folk art. In the interest of full disclosure, I used an Oil Paint filter in Photoshop to achieve this effect. Not sure if I should've posted it here or in the Post Processing section but what the heck, here it is. Try Download for the best effect. Enjoy!

Very nicely done! Thanks for posting. With some filter in PS the OPF do not have the right effect, but in this case it looks very good indeed!

Thanks for your time!
