I am a strong advocate of always having 2 bodies...(and 4 batteries for them....!) The 'comfort, convenience and peace of mind' of having both a backup camera is invaluable. This, as well as minimizing the time...and exposure to the elements, when changing lenses are just 2 good reasons for carrying a pair of cameras. In my case, I have two Nikon D750's, one of them with a Nikon 28-300mm and the other with a Sigma 17-35 mm. So...with this setup, I have covered the 17-300 mm range with a small overlap....I rarely have to change lenses...and the need to have "that other lens mounted" seems to always come at a very inopportune time...! If your budget permits, I suggest that both cameras be the same model...and set up in the same way....this prevents any confusion about which 'mode', etc. your camera is in when the action is greatest.

Remember that "Murphy's Law" has never been repealed...!!

A final 'tip' that helps me a lot...is to have two different colored neck straps, this lets me see which camera is which while still in my case. I like Domke products and I have one tan 1.5 inch strap and one blue 1.5 inch strap....just my personal preference...

You are the second person in two days who has mentioned the 28-300 for full frame. Does it have VR? Do you have any shots are 300 that you would be able to display?

Im looking for a good sharp 300mm lens with close focus distance for shooting butterflies. Thanks!

Is this "sharp" enough for you?? (OUCH!!!)

Be sure to download the full size image to judge the sharpness of this lens...this shot is actually a composite photo..done with Focus Stacking. It is made from two separately focused images, the right side is focused on the nearby Saguaro, the left section was focused on the more distant portions of the scene. Additionally, it was taken handheld, so the VR probably helped a bit. The image was blended using CombineZP, a free bit of software that has the magical ability to find the sharpest portions of individual frames and blend those sections into a final image such as you see here.

My 28-300mm nearly always mounted on one of my Nikon D-750s...the other D-750 mounts a Sigma 17-35mm f2.8. This combo of bodies/lenses gives me nearly every focal length I ever need...

But if I need to take a picture of my Nikon DSLR....the easiest way is to reach for my iPhone....conversely, I can use my Nikon to take a photo of my iPhone...! So most of us need both 'tools' in situations like this...which is what I consider a 'real conundrum', by the way...!!

(Disclaimer...in real life, I actually have a pair of Nikons...but I think you get my point?)

Don't overlook the path to Photoshop that the simpler "Photoshop Elements" can provide. Often PSE (Elements) is on-sale for less than $100...$60 at times bundled with Premiere Elements, too. My view is that PSE provides about 80% of the options of full-featured Photoshop....and at about 20% of the cost. It can also be a one-time purchase or a free trial download. Like or hate Adobe, it IS the accepted standard of the industry. IF you are going to have a 'learning curve', it might as well be just a ONE time struggle.

PSE currently is on sale at Amazon for $70.

Here are two options that might help out....the first is from the GoPro.com site itself. They have product manuals for ALL of their cameras, etc. Here is a link that will get a download in PDF format for the Hero5. Since that is what I have, I picked that one...but there is a good menu for the other models. Being a pdf, you can easily zoom into any of the sections you want to read more about. It also allows you to do most of the PDF functions, print, search, save...etc. You are correct to point out that much of the material that comes with so many devices requires 20/20 vision AND magnifying glasses to read easily... Even worse are some devices that print the labels on the actual controls in something like light gray on dark gray.....impossible to read..!

The second option is to buy one of the many manuals that have been written for GoPros….these are available either as hard copy books or as downloaded manuals to your PC, Kindle, Nook, etc. The one that I purchased from Amazon is written by Jordan Hetrick and contains a wealth of info, both about the camera itself as well as post processing, selecting good photo locations...on and on. The link is: https://smile.amazon.com/GoPro-How-Use-Hero-Black/dp/0991654773/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1527464786&sr=8-1&keywords=gopro+hero+5+manual&dpID=515qrF1882L&preST=_SX218_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch I'm sure there are others that are good, but this is the only one I have any knowledge of.

Keep in mind that the current GoPro models are VERY 'feature intensive' with a VERY extensive list of options that can be selected, modified or deleted. To pack all of this into a 2 inch cube, along with an LED screen, microphones (3 of them!), a tiny speaker, voice controls, remote control link, ....the list goes on and on. Don't try to 'get it all' at one time...play with each of the functions until you have a good grasp of how they work...then move on to the next one. Enjoy your amazing camera....it's truly a high quality device, capable of some amazing photos, videos, time lapse, slo-mo, etc...

I have a GoPro Hero5...and a warped 'sense of humor' as well. When I am showing it to other people, I try to do it when we are at a restaurant having lunch or just coffee, etc. I make sure that I have a glass of water in front of me....and after I explain a few of the features of the GoPro, I will then say something like, "Here, you have a look!"..and proceed to pass the camera across the table to the other person. At that point I "fumble...WHOOOPS..!" and drop the GoPro into the water......ALWAYS a major surprise to the rest of the table. I try to remember to have it taking video when I pull this stunt, so that the entire episode is recorded for our 'enjoyment'....!!

It's after I retrieve it from the water glass that I explain that it IS waterproof....

Har, har…..I'll be here all week, tip your waiter...!

Thanks for your entry, though....

Let me guess, with my prize and a $5 bill I can get a coffee mocha at McDonalds? And I don't really need the prize.

Oh, once upon a time I took a class in Arial Photo and Map Interpretation and the professor throw in a bit of general photo interpretation for free. On the final in the photo interpretation section I missed the length of a heavy cruiser in the Brooklyn Navy Yard by 2 feet and the prof told me not to stress over it as half of that class were 2 feet longer due to a change in the bow design after half of them had been built.
Let me guess, with my prize and a $5 bill I can ge... (show quote)

I am reminded of a manager I had several jobs...and many years...ago. Seems he had worked at one time at a submarine yard, his job had something to do with cutting and/or chasing the many long cables that ran from stem to stern of the subs. His group would notice that quite often the cables would be waaaay too long...say for a 500' boat, they might be close to 600' feet long. It took awhile to figure out that the problem arose from the guys who designed the individual compartments. If they were doing the design work on an 8 foot compartment, they might mark up the cable order for those 8 feet....and a couple more feet..."just to make sure"...! You've already figured out that after many people added that "just to make sure" amount....the additional few feet, multiplied by many times....really added up...!

The ones taking pictures are all using cell phones.
Plus since they all appear to be "senior" citizens I will venture that all are veterans who used to work on or fly the machines they are interested in at the moment.

Wild Ass Guess after doing a blowup. All but one are the same person with clothing changes - would that be you?

BINGO....We have a WINNER....! You should be seeing the Prize Patrol pull up at your home soon.....(Disclaimer....NO you won't....!!!)

But, yes...all but the fellow in the blue shirt are me...just a slight 'costume change' between exposures....meant to add some 'action' to the scene. And...while I AM a Veteran, I was not in the USAF, so did not have that kind of contact with any of these planes. Also..."The ones taking pictures are all using cell phones.." is only partially correct...I was not actually taking photos with my iPhone, but was just using it to 'preview' each of the pano images, then used the WiFi link to trip the shutter....ah...the fun of playing with these high tech toys...!! I was able to see where I stood in each of the shots...and tried to get in the center of each of the pano images to make sure that I would show up in the final product...

Thanks to all for playing...………..
