But, don't be offended if you post here and receive constructive comments that you may not welcome.

Welcome to the forum

JR1, I for one like your constructive comments. If the intent is to learn one should not be offended.

I have begun taking some photos again after a kind person, after seeing some of my photos encouraged me to take more. I like landscapes but have recently tried taking photos of plants and insects. I've been looking at different photography forums for a while and decided to give this one a try as it seems friendly, encouraging and constructive.

All of us here at UHH want to improve our photo skills; some take it more seriously then others so accept the comments with a grain of salt.

The one piece of advice I hope you will receive and remember is to HAVE FUN. That is what keeps me clicking.

I did well enough to raise five fine children (none of whom became photographers) Following 7 years working at the Boeing Renton Plant where I learned how to make films, hands on I switched to motion pictures. My most enduring work and the most fun in my life was Director of Photography for
THRESHOLD -THE BLUE ANGELS EXPERIENCE. Released in
1973 it became a classic. 40 years later you can click on net and download it. Of course it'd dated but there is a lot to learn about shooting. I still dabble in stills, digital.

Your pictures are awesome. I am sure you will get many questions as to your technique. Welcome and I can't wait to see more.

Just starting out in the photography. So much to learn. 80% of my pictures involve the ocean and sunrise or sunset. I will be asking for advice in the near future.

Welcome and enjoy! Love the second pict!

I'm a new member and just got into photography a few years a little bit so have a lot to learn. I hope you will take a look at my photo's and give me your honest opinion on them and how I can improve them. Thanks, Karen Davidson

I like all 3 pictures. No picture is perfect, but if it is what you are trying to accomplish, then save it. #3 is great. How did you get the little guy to stay so still?

Good day to all. Which is the best place to post picts for critique? I see some in general photography and in Photo Gallery. I want to make sure I post in the proper space as I am new to this. I attached some pictures that were also in the general section. Looking for critique as I feel that is an excellent way to learn.

I am working on a retirement gift for my father-n-law. I plan to take one of these images and transfer it to a large piece of wood. Just curious which one you would use and feel free to edit and show your vision. Be creative! I am about to start editing them all. My vision is more rustic, almost painted on the wood and sanded away. All of the images were taken with 50mm 1.4 at f/9 ISO100 A 1/500
Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi everyone! Sorry it took so long and thanks to everyone for all the great advice. Here is the final product... 48x36"

I like #1 and #2. I would think the boats name is important to your project so #1 for sure. Please be sure to post a picture of your final creation. I love unique projects and yours certainly has my interest.

A member of the ruling elite in our household. The guy with the camera is just a servant, if truth be told. But I'm also the one who knows how to open the cat food cans, so I think I have job security. For now.

Beautiful picture. Is the "white outline" actually from the camera or post editing effects. It gives Martian an angelic appearance. And I know what you mean by "ruling elite". Got a couple of those in my family.

I wasn't going to post these, as they aren't a genre that appeals to too many folks on this forum and I'm not too particularly fond of displaying my growing pains... but I'm doing as told *snickers*

So if you object to the following... take it up with Ian (Hargraves)
hahaha!

Wow Tilde! If these are your growing pains then your favorites must be exquisit. Your pictures catch the eyes and make one want to look at all the details. A job well done.

I don't know if this has been discussed but I wear glasses and I wonder what you pros/ amateurs do (ie gear, tips and tricks) to deal with the eyeglasses challenge. I wonder about manual focusing ect. Thanks for your response!

I understand what you mean. I wear trifocals and sometimes that can be a real bother. My solution was to take one picture in autofocus then 2 or 3 on manual until you get that nice sharp focus. The autofocus picture just gives you a comparison. Of course this is pretty much for still pictures. Pictures with movement takes a bit more time to get correct.

Shutterbug Magazine has a section each month entitled "Talking Pictures" and features a full page photo of a picture that needs no description. I mailed in an 8X10 photo ( they won't accept digital, email or photoshopped photos ) of a "splash" shot of a golf ball. The photo is called "Tough Lie" or as the magazine titled it, "Water Hazard". It's in the March edition ( Barnes and Noble already has it ) and is by William Carson, my real name - ( Abby is my UHH name and was the name of our Boxer dog )

Thanks for looking.
