It may have been a long time, but you are correct.

Government funding came generally from tariffs, excise taxes, and customs duty fees. There weren't the demands for government services like there is today. There was no centralized welfare funding, Social Security, etc. Most welfare funding was done at the local and state levels, and by charitable organizations such as churches, etc.

Separation of church and state anyone?

There's no established "state" religion in the US Constitution. To say that there is a separation of church and state is a non-starter. Our "state" is created from Judaeo-Christian concepts; and those concepts are practiced in churches, temples, and synagogues all the time.

That so-called "wall of separation" is made of whole cloth by US Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, based upon an obscure letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptists.

You now have two completely different interpretations on the same subject. Colorizing creates a completely new study!

Well done, Jim!!

Not at all. Scientific theories may be falsified (disproven) at any time, by new evidence. Theories may be revised, or new evidence explaning phenomena may be found.

A great example is from physics:
Newton formalized the theory of Universal Gravitational Attraction — an instantaneous attractive force acting upon every object in the universe (and proportional to distance).

Einstein revised this by introducing the limiting factor of the speed of light. PREDICTED gravity would attract (bend) light — this was verified by observers during a solar eclipse. Stars that should have been occluded by the solar disk were visible!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another “adjustment” to the theoretical explanation of the cosmos with Newton’s laws, was the explanation of increased mass at higher velocities, and time-dilation at high velocities. These were not even addressed by Newton, yet were PREDICTED by Einstein’s theories, and OBSERVATION confirmed those theoretical predictions.
So the previous theories were AMENDED when special conditions were known to exist.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Another classic example of a theory’s logic was Mendeleev’s theory of the organization of the chemical elements.
Prior to Mendeleev, there had been numerous attempts to order the elements. Several hypotheses were advanced, but none accounted for all observed phenomena or chemical reactivity.

Mendeleev arranged the known elements by mass / atomic number (number of protons), and put them in groups according to their outermost shell electron count (valence electrons).
When completed, there were several “gaps” where elements should, according to Mendeleev’s theory, exist. At later dates these elements were identified, and were found to have the physical and chemical properties predicted.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Quite a lot was known about breeding and trait inheritance, yet it was not scientifically studied with controlled experiments until Friar aGregor Mendel devised, carried out, analyzed and formulated specific methods of inheritance. His experiments with peas established the basis for genetics — a true theory and explanation of previous “theories” of inheritance.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

There are (almost) innumerable instances of theories being disproven, discarded, modified or altered based upon new or more precise evidence.
Not at all. Scientific theories may be falsified... (show quote)

Scientific theories must also wait for technological development. Genetics theories (proposed by Mendel and Darwin) also had to wait on inventions such as x-rays before proven. It wasn't until improvements in astronomical instruments that Edwin Hubble was able to prove the expanding universe.

And how long was "The Big Bang" known as a theory, before "Theory" was dropped?

How much do Canadians pay in the way of U.S. R&D? Are Canadian-sold drugs fully costed vis-á-vis U.S.-sold drugs?

Europeans skip out on fully costed drugs and only pay current production costs plus limited mark-up.

R&D costs are fully borne by U.S. consumers.

If climate change is occurring and I had to bet on its' cause, human beings or the sun, I would definitely bet on the sun. Point being, if adverse climate change is occurring, we can't stop it given the political and physical issues involved so we better learn how to adapt to it. Stop wasting time, money and resources trying to prevent it and spend them where they will do the most good.

Here! Here!

The sun has the greatest effect on our climate. There are more folks who die from extreme cold, than extreme heat. Solar output varies, and humans haven't been around long enough to gauge those variations. In the last 2K+ years, we've seen that temperatures were warmer in the time of the Roman Empire. Rome was a near-tropical metropolis, and there are remnants of citrus orchards near Hadrian's Wall. We had a mini-ice age in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and there are documented events describing a "lack of summer", and a complete lack of a "normal" growing season.

I deal with these guys in Detroit. This one is from their Chicago branch. I've bought a lot of used lenses, etc., from them and never had a problem.

Trump is not the president, last time I looked it was President Bidon.

That's what you get for living in the Great White North. Your brain is frozen.

In the United States it is customary to refer to a person by the highest title which that person has attained, generally in public service. All former Presidents of the United States are accorded this honor, as are Vice-Presidents. If a person has been a governor of a particular state, that person is generally identified as Governor John Smith, even if Smith were no longer governor. The same goes for representatives, senators, mayors, etc., although many don't personally use the title. The same goes for retired military - Retired military are generally referred to by their highest attained rank: John Smith, Lt. General, United States Marine Corps,Retired; Jane Doe, Command Sergeant Major, U.S. Army, Retired.

There, now you're no longer uneducated in American customs and honors.

Also do not get me going on Biden's Special Prosecutor who won't charge him because he is a feeble old man. He was in full control of his faculties as VP and he still had many, many classified documents. A TOTAL WHITEWASH.

Amen!

And just to add, the Maine SoS completely violated Trumps 14th Amendment rights to due process.

They were "armed"with a wide variety of things that they used as weapons to attack the Capitol and Capitol police: baseball bat, a hockey stick, a rebar, a flagpole – including the American flag – pepper spray, bear spray. And some did have firearms on their person.

They were not armed in the conventional sense, i.e. with firearms, and able to mount an insurrection. What happened at the Capitol was a riot, pure and simple. You and the "January 6th Committee" trying to state otherwise doesn't make it so. And your argument is further weakened by the fact that no one has been indicted for "insurrection".

The FBI did not recover any firearms on January 6th.

Everyone is focused on the word “ insurrection. But the last clause says”…… given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. ””
Referring to the constitution . Trump by doing nothing for hours to uphold the constitution in accordance with the oath he took violated that.
Even in his follow up speech yesterday he bragged about what he said before and and the end but omitted that he did nothing. “ during” .

In any case this is not about holding office is about running in a “ primary “ which is purely a state issue. Heck some states don’t even have primaries. The Republican Party doesn’t even need a primary to nominate a person. In fact I don’t believe there were any primaries until the early party of the 20th century.

Just what kind of "insurrection" did the President engage? There were no armed "insurrectionists" present, only the DC/Capitol police. The President requested activation of the DC National Guard, but was denied by Pelosi. Just what was his obligation? The rioters didn't kill anyone; that distinction belongs to the cops.

Its a funny thing about being slave. Whether you're forced to build a pyramid in Egypt or South America, one thing for sure, screw up and you die. Maybe that is why the lines are straight as a die.

It's a myth that the Egyptian pyramids were built by slaves. There may have been some slave labor, but the majority of the workers were paid for their labor. Too much skilled labor was needed, such as stonemasons, stone cutters, draftsmen, surveyors, boat wrights, etc.

Even the Court's most liberal justices were highly skeptical of Colorado's argument.

The purpose of the 14th Amendment was to take away the states' powers, not enhance them. And even the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court at the time, stated the Amendment was about the 1861-1865 war and excluding its participants from getting into power during the post-war era.

I believe that what people with these "alien" theories miss, is just how quickly humans learn. Pyramids are probably the most sturdy, and conceptually easy to design. Ancient civilizations didn't have any distractions from the stated goal of building things. It wasn't like there were any outside distractions like we have today (television, telephone, computers, etc.). And many folks don't know that the workers on the Egyptian pyramids were paid.

I've also visited the pyramids in Mexico, and I consider them the output of people who were dedicated to a job, and never lost sight of the end result. The lines of the low walls along the walk between Pyramid Del Sol and Pyramid De La Luna are as straight as a die.
