This is my first year living in Idaho Falls. Throughout the other times of the year the city goes all out with decorations making this city a pleasure to live. For Christmas near the actual Idaho Falls near Broadway Street, there is a park where Christmas lights abound. I have wanted to take some night photos but the temperatures have been down in the single digits at times. Not my idea of a good photographic experience. But last night the temperature rocketed up to 34 degrees. Now that works for me.

The woman on the bridge with the dogs graciously allowed me to take her photo as I told her I really needed a human for the photo. Very nice lady.

These photos are the first outside Christmas photos I have taken so please be gentle with me. Any suggestions would be welcome. I hope you enjoy the photos.

Okay from the looks of it this canyon--Bull Trap Canyon--has been around for at least a couple of years, but evidently it's been just beyond my wandering range, though barely. It's difficult to reach but then you can explore for a long way in either direction. I headed south because it hooks up with another canyon and the topography looks promising, though I didn't get that far; on occasion I remind myself of my age, the season, the length of the day, and the fact that I have a tendency to really hurt myself. So this hike, out and back, was just over five miles, enough to get my feet wet except that there was hardly any water. I set up a trail camera and got a few photos along the way. I have more dramatic ones on my phone, so there may be a second post.

In the near future I hope to approach this area from the south, where the elevation is lower, and head north. There was a beastly climb and descent of a ridge which I'd rather avoid. We shall see how it all lines up. Anyway, this was my Christmas gift to myself and there is much more of it to open.

My wonderful wife gifted me with one of those "smart watches" for XMAS.
I have spent more than a few hours working on it, put the app on my "smart phone", connected the watch to the phone, turning on certain features at the watch, learning that some features can only be set using the phone. This thing is confusing as all get out to me, I have eight "dumb watches" that I rotate wearing as it is. When and if I ever get this watch figured out, it may well be on my wrist the majority of the time, just to prove to family and friends that I mastered the evil thing. Hope everyone else also had a Merry Christmas!
