I was fortunate... and had 2 Grandfathers.... My dad's father, Grandpa Al, was Conductor on CN/W that had a run from Clintonville, Wis up to Bessmer, Mi. with 2 passenger cars and a 150 or so "flat cars" for loggers in North East, Wi. [side note] Conductors would "side track" given number of flats at certain points along the route. Why? Supply and demand by the logging camps. The highest bidders got the most flats which was important that got the logs out of the woods before the spring thaw — otherwise logs "layed over" till next fall.

#2, Mothers Dad, Grandpa Jerry, lived 2 blocks from switching yards in Stevens Point, Wi. St Paul St. This was in the day of Horse Drawn Paddy Wagons. Six or Eight taverns were opposite the switch yards. Police didn't relish going into the area of "total rail workers." The railroad sidetracked a caboose, painted it red, hung curtains on the windows.... and that became Grandpa Jerry's court room. Any disturbance in the saloons... a call (runner) went to Grandpa's house for help. Grampa Jerry was a very large person. 6'10, 230#'s. Never went into the saloons when railway personnel were trying to settle differences. Just stood and looked thru window... got the attention of problem person(s) had them volunteer to walk outside.. from there to the caboose. Curtains closed. Gas lanterns were lit... Conversations between culprit and Grandpa were exchanged. Culprit went back to saloon, apologized to owner, was informed by owner what was owed for breakage of bottles, mirrors, chairs etc....
When tab was paid for damages culprit was allowed into saloons on St Paul street once again. A second offence got U barred for 6 months.

I had a Superior nun named "Fortunata" . . . with a vengeance to take U into this LONG Cloak Room, three levels of coat hooks on each of the long walls.l..lll... Grab U by the hair and "bang your head back/forth on hooks.


It sure made a VERY LARGE IMPRESSION on my head!!!!!! both inside and out.
Turned abound, picked up my glasses and walked out of that institution . . . 5 th. grade. . . NEVER TO RETURN.

Off to public school. NO entry fee. More coins to feed 4 kids.

Great Country.... Spend many hrs in Cornocopia; Litte St Germain; Loon Lake; Florence; etc.... then down to Niagara, Wi bluff area. First thing I run short on is $$'s for vehicle fuel....

Head to PointLoma, then up the BIG hill to main blvd.... turn left.. to south... go all the way to the end. Parking ,,, etc. Couple light houes..

If u have strong lens.... great.... North Island Naval Air Field.... usually a carrier in there for a 40 day "treat."

Many commercial fish boats.... in the "stream"... plus a dozen "Submarines" very near the mouth of the bay.

Using Google chrome.... it's easy to conquer that problem. Create an incoming mailbox tag, Voila... U'll never see the second one. Click on tag, select features U want applied to the mail tag.... Voila.... disappears like a f _ _ _ _ in a whirlwind. p.s. One tag fit's all mails. Using same tag, create a new rule for different label.

Summer of 1943 I live in one of those... 50 days, Niagara Wi paper mill hired my father who "scaled" logs = loggers brought to "yards" above Kimberly Clark Paper Mill, on Menomonee River. River water was captured and used for turbine that created electricity for mill and town of 400 residents.
[trace Meno. River from Marinette, Wi... go north... to michigan border... U'll find Niagara, Iron Mountain, Norway, etc. . .

Some loggers took 3 or 4 days hauling logs from woods to wood yards via 4 horse hitch. Others had very old trucks with flatbeds for hauling.

I know people that set up Tent city in backyard..... and rent out their 3 bed house..... for a week..... prices vary... depending on location to Show area.

This year night air shows on Wednesday, July 30 and Saturday, August 2.

Many show attendees migrated down to river area, [downtown, Main St area to train bridge] watching us catch walleye + white bass... "Double Headers" 2 at a time... Created our own "double rigs" - 2 hand tied flies + we molded [lead] in-line lead sinkers." Variety of .oz sizes. Worked perfect on Spin Cast rods.
