Hi everyone! I need some advice on good photo ops in San Diego and surrounding areas. I want to take some unusual landscape and nature photos. Any suggestions?

I do not know if it still exists but there is Lion Country Safari. There is Sea World, San Diego Zoo and the beach.
With the exception of the zoo Google the other two to see
if they are still open. There are many photo ops all over
southern California, have fun.

I think by "Lion Country Safari" eb means the San Diego Wild Animal Park, which is run by the same organization as the Zoo.

There are a lot of points of interest: Balboa Park, beaches, Old Town. Go to Coronado for an iconic shot of San Diego from across the bay--better yet, do it at night.

There is no Lion Country Safari in the San Diego area. However there is Safari Park, which was called Wild Animal Park. It is not in San Diego proper. It is located outside of Escondido, CA which is about 30 miles north of San Diego.

San Diego Wild Animal Park is open 9am to dusk. Nice 'zoo' in that most animals are in very large enclosures, most without obstruction for photo ops.

Go during a weekday as many local families have annual passes so the weekends get busy with lots of kids ....... if your using a good DSLR a 70-200mm or similar plus a long one in the 300 - 500mm range are nice to have. a 70-200 on a crop 1.6X works.

You could also go to Liberty Station, an area in Point Loma that used to house the Naval Training Center San Diego and still has the only landlocked Naval ship that was actually a commissioned vessel. I went there for Boot Camp in January, February, & March of 1969.

He did say San Diego and SURROUNDING area and in the 70s there was a Lion Country Safari, I was there and you drove your car through the park, you kept your windows closed and you were told to stay in your car at all times, that is why it was called Lion Country Safari.

Enjoy it, San Diego is a great place with many photo ops (as mentioned above). Stay north of the boarder, Tijuana is not the place to go.

BTW, today at 1900, local, it was 90 degrees.

Lion country safari was north of San Diego about 64 miles and was open from June 16, 1970 to November 1984. It was closed and in 1986 a water park called Wild Rivers waterpark opened and was there till September of 2011 when that was torn down and The Los Olivos Apartment complex went up on the property.

Yeah, I meant to mention that: October is usually hot (and fire season) -- it starts to cool off about the last week.

on the water front there is a beautiful park. Tribute to Bob Hope (cool statues) salute to veterans. A 50 ft. statue tribute The Sailor kissing the Nurse in Time Square. Beautiful boats, and a village done beautifully in the Spanish Style. Take the ferry to Corranado Island. Great food beautiful gardens. oh and the USS Midway.

Wow, there is so much to see and photograph in and around San Diego. Tour the USS Midway, an aircraft carrier at permanent anchor in the bay. The Gaslamp Quarter. Head out to La Jolla for one of the most picturesque seascapes on earth! Check out Pacific Beach for some "California Dreamin'" (not to mention California Girls!). Mirimar has a five mile path around it where you can spot snakes, flora, runners and a variety of eco-types. Maybe take in the world-famous Coronado. Head up to one of the mesas (Clairemont, Kearny) and take a look around.

You'll have no trouble finding photo opportunities. I guarantee it!
